Publisher's summary
No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal.
But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.
Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

It was easy to call us forbidden and harder to call us soul mates. Yet I believed we were both. Forbidden soul mates. When I arrived in Edgewood, Wisconsin, I didn't plan to find him. I didn't plan to stumble into Joe's bar and have Daniel's music stir up my emotions. I had no clue that his voice would make my hurts forget their own sorrow. I had no idea that my happiness would remember its own bliss.

Devin and Ayden were my best friends. We were practically joined at the hip since age two. When we were kids, we thought we were invincible, inseparable, that nothing or no one could come between us. But we were wrong. Everything turned to crap our senior year of high school. Devin was turning into a clone of his deadbeat lowlife father - fighting, getting wasted, and screwing his way through every girl in town. I'd been hiding a secret crush on him for years.

When 16-year-old Alice is diagnosed with leukemia, her prognosis is grim. To maximize the time she does have, she vows to spend her final months righting wrongs - however she sees fit. She convinces her friend Harvey, who she knows has always had feelings for her, to help her with a crazy bucket list that's as much about revenge (humiliating her ex-boyfriend and getting back at her archnemesis) as it is about hope (doing something unexpectedly kind for a stranger).

Story
Before senior year, I was forced to move away, leaving behind the only man I have ever loved. He promised he'd love me forever. He vowed nothing would tear us apart. He swore he'd wait for me, but Jack lied. Six years later, when our paths cross again, his broad shoulders, rock-hard chest, and rippling muscles almost make me forget his betrayal. His rugged voice, tempting lips, and sinful smile make it harder for me to deny the feelings I still have for him. He wants to make me his again, but our past may be too much for us to overcome.

I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michels offered to be my light. I didn't know that time wasn't my ally - that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer - each moment as it came - but it would never be enough.

I crawled into Ryan Jensen’s bed that first night by accident. I barely knew him. I thought it was his sister’s bed - her room. It took seconds to realize my error, and I should've left... I didn’t. I didn’t jump out. I didn’t get embarrassed. I relaxed. And that night, in that moment, it was the only thing I craved. I asked to stay. He let me, and I slept. The truth? I never wanted to leave his bed. If I could've stayed forever, I would have. He became my sanctuary. Because - four hours earlier - my twin sister killed herself.

Enticing Story That Keeps You Wanting More!
I loved this book! It was filled with romance and a little mystery and suspense. Wanting to know what happened to Echo and her memory was a big reason that I read through it so fast and it didnt disappoint! The only thing I wish was different was the language. There were some crude words used throughout the book.

Great book
I love this book, I will definitely listen to again. Can I just say I'm in love with the male narrator. He could read anything to me. He was perfect for this book, and brought Noah's character to life. The female narrator was ok, when I first started listening to it her voice for Ashley drove me nuts but I'm glad a stuck with it.

Always a great read
I picked this book up in a library almost a decade ago. I wanted to reread it and was so happy to see this book on here. I adore this book so much. The story telling is wonder.

Perfect
What made the experience of listening to Pushing the Limits the most enjoyable?
It felt less like an audiobook and more like sitting across the table from my friends as they told me about their day.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked that both characters were flawed, that even though they started out with nefarious intent, and went about gaining their own ends in the wrong way, they ended up accepting that their nemesis wasn't their enemy and working through their issues on their own.
What does MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Tara does an absolutely brilliant job with Echo's sarcasm, and MacLeod's reading of one scene in particular made me have to pull off into a parking lot because I was crying too hard to see the road in front of me.
Any additional comments?
Highly recommend both the book and the audio version.

pretty good story
5 stars for the male narrator and 2.5 stars for the female. she was annoying and her male voices were sub-par. she over pronounced her R's. the story was good though.

Awesome YA Romance. Love love love this book!!!!!
This was my second time listening to this book. (I have never actually read this book, like in print. The first time, I rated it a 4. This time I struggled between 4 and 5 stars, deciding that a solid 4.5 stars is more the case and rounded up.) Told from the alternating POVs of Noah and Echo, Pushing the Limits is a mature YA read for those whole like contemporary romance, but it is certainly not a light hearted read. I loved Noah and Echo and was equally interested in each character’s stories. Noah is oh so sexy, and your typical bad boy with a heart of gold. Echo is socially withdrawn with severe “daddy” issues. Actually, she has family issues period. Both characters have been dealt a debilitating hand by fate. Katie McGarry, the book’s author, did a masterful job of getting me to instantly like and care about what happened to her characters. I really wanted to see Echo heal and Noah get his family back. I even cared what happened to the supporting characters. Isaiah and Beth, Tyler and Jacob, Lila, even Grace was interesting. What I really noticed the second read-(er, listen-) through, was the McGarry did not rush her story. I really liked that she took the time to develop the plot, yet the story got going right away. I was interested from the first 30 seconds into the book. I also appreciated that McGarry did not end the book abruptly. Noah and Echo’s lives were messy. And it would have been a huge injustice to their story if the author simply tried to end everything with your typical YA high school romance neat with-ribbon-and-bow ending. She took the time to really flesh out all the major (and even more minor) plot points and left me with an ending that I found remarkable and extremely satisfying. I would definitely recommend this read to anyone who liked Slammed by Colleen Hoover and Perfect Chemistry by Simone Elkeles. Also, I can’t wait to read the next book in the series, Dare You To.

good story
great story but when i felt like the book should have been over, it kept going. i listened to the last few chapters but it slightly bored me. and i thought what her mother did to her would have been more of a suprise but with all the hints throughout the book the ending was no shock really, but still an amazing book i loved it.

A Romantic and Meaningful Book
I loved both of the characters! They were so real, so real, I believed I could be that brave too. The narrators really bought the humor and emotional the book aimed for. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series!

Will We Ever Learn ( Ass)uming Hurts People?
Where does Pushing the Limits rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This audiobook ranks high in the category of "young adults ". Very well written and acted out in the audio book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I like Noah, probably because he is the stronger character and very supportive of Echo when she needs it.
What does MacLeod Andrews and Tara Sands bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I almost prefer to have a male and female read the separate parts than have one actor read both.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried along with Echo when she remembered the time she fell one the stain glass window her mentally ill mother made. Then drugged by her mom. Echo tried to get her father via phone, but only voice mail while her mother continued to attempt to kill her.
When Echo confronted her father as to what he left her there. Why didn't he check his phone? Why he doesn't love her? I was very sad, as her dad just only say he was sorry.
Any additional comments?
I thought it was a great that Echo's dad did not jump down Noah's throat with 20 questions, etc., when Echo came down in a sleeveless dress for a school dance allowing her to be herself and Noah said she is beautiful. That was all Echo's father needed to hear.
