Publisher's summary

For a moment Wilson froze and looked at the white-helmeted pilot who sat high on the nose of the colossal fighter. Across the small void, he saw the pilot's eyes peer over his mask. Dark, chilling eyes. Wilson kicked right rudder to slide closer and jam any chance for a bandit gunshot. When the bandit pulled all the way over, almost on its back but in control, he cursed in frustration at what he knew was coming next. The hostile fighter reversed over the top in a negative-g maneuver, his nose tracking down on Wilson like a falling sledgehammer in slow motion. Horrified, Wilson realized he faced an imminent snapshot. With the little air speed he had, he inverted his Hornet to avoid the attack. His aircraft still rolling, Wilson saw that the monster had another weapon at its disposal.

Critic reviews

"A page turner... Raven One makes a major contribution to aircraft carrier history during difficult deployments. The author has skillfully woven the intense combat maneuvers with a fascinating human interest story." (Naval Historical Foundation)

Great Insights Into Naval Aviation

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Unfortunately, there were times I had to rewind and relisten to certain parts because I got lost in the midst of overwhelming naval jargon. As an former army guy, who spent time working with the navy, it brought back some memories - both good and bad. The story is engaging as he weaves just the right amount of action to keep my interest and now I find I want to know more about Lt Cdr Wilson - so I guess I'm buying the next book in the series.

great story and great first hand knowledge

Kevin's knowledge of naval aviation is shared in a way that both combat veterans can relate to and the common non military person can enjoy. nice work!

You Are There

Held my interest from the first few pages to the last word. The descriptions of the human interplay between sailors and the war fighting events was extraordinary. Gave the listener the fly on the wall seat to every event. Recommend highly to anyone.

Great present-day battles in the Middle East

I loved this book! Told from a naval aviator's perspective, you feel like you're right in the cockpit flying these missions. Excellent detail and dialog make it a real gem.

Great Listen

It kinda makes you wonder how much of the book isn't fiction. You can tell he writes from experience.

"clip"?

why does the author repeatedly refer to a magazine for a semi automatic pistol as a "clip". I dint know any military that would do that, even the Navy.

Fly with Naval Aviators

First off, the narration is great, a rarity in audio books. There are so many books I want to listen to, but the reviews are consistent that the narrator butchers the story. This story is fun and exciting, but the reader has to be interested in carrier operations. The negative reviews about the lingo are misguided. That's like going to Brazil and complaining they speak a different language. The language is part of the culture. Will I read every book in the series? This book has no lead in to the others. Autobiographies are much more interesting. Try "The Wrong Stuff" and find out why.
