Publisher's summary

The storm has passed, but the hard work is just beginning…

Gansett Island has withstood the fury of Hurricane Ethel, and now the cleanup is underway for many islanders, including McKenzie Martin, who barely escaped the storm with her life and that of her son, Jax. After Police Chief Blaine Taylor rescued them and brought them to his home, her island neighbor, Duke Sullivan, showed up with belongings he collected from the collapsed cottage she recently inherited from her grandmother. When Duke invites McKenzie to use his empty garage apartment while she figures out her next moves, McKenzie is thankful for his offer—and his friendship—as she navigates the complexities of rebuilding on an island.

Duke is smitten by his old friend Rosemary’s granddaughter, the loveliest woman he’s ever met. But what would she want with a long-haired, tattooed dude like him who’s nine years older than her and more than a little rough around the edges? Turns out, she’s quite enchanted by the man she refers to as a unicorn. Not only is he sexy, thoughtful and funny, he’s also kind, which is the most important quality to her after encountering too many selfish men who disappointed her, especially Jax’s father, who’s about to hear from McKenzie’s new lawyer, Kendall James, sister to Jared, Quinn and Cooper.

As the friendship between Duke and McKenzie deepens, other islanders are caught up in the search for two missing men, one of whom has deepties to several longtime residents. Others are dealing with the emotional fallout from their close calls during the storm.

In good times and in bad, island residents come together to support each other and to rebuild their beloved community.

Bonus! Attend the wedding of two island favorites in a special short story at the end of RENEWAL AFTER DARK!

Another wonderful Gansett Island book

After the hurricane hit Gansett Island, everyone is trying to rebuild and helping their neighbors. Duke Sullivan finds his neighbor's granddaughter and her infant son to take care of them since their cabin was destroyed. He offers his apartment above his garage until they get the cabin rebuilt. Mckenzie "MK" Martin was willed her grandmother's cabin and thought it would be a chance for a new start. Duke and MK have an attraction to each other even though there's a ten year difference in their age. I thought it was wonderful the way Duke stepped up to take care of MK and her son. We also get to see everyone else on Gansett that we've met in the past. It was great getting caught up with them and seeing how everyone takes care of everyone else. I can't wait for the next book I liked Holly Warren's narration, too.

Great storytelling

This was a sweet, funny and wonderful book of love. It gave us a chance to catch up with all the couples we have come to love so much on Gansett Island. It is always great to read a new story about Gansett Island, it’s like coming home to your family as you get to catch up with what is going on in all their lives.

This book as with others in the series was an extremely well written, sweet, sexy and romantic book. A fantastic addition to the series and the narration by Holly Warren added to my listening pleasure. Although, having said that I do think that a male narrator for the men would really have enhanced the story, but then that is just my opinion.

Good story

I love all of Marie’s books. This was a good Gansett Island book introducing another wonderful couple. However, I didn’t enjoy this performance as much as I usually do. It seemed a little slow for me but did eventually pick up a bit about half way through.
