About this listen

What brought on the bad dream was, of all things, an old-time Buick. Sam Fogel wasn’t into vehicles, certainly not collectibles. The forty-two-year-old college professor leaned more toward chamber music and theater and poetry as diversions, not expensive, environment-wrecking technology. But over breakfast one spring Saturday, Janie looked up from the Meadow Hills Observer and pointed to an article, suggesting that he take the children to the fairgrounds to see the auto show. Sam had started to protest, but she added—in a tone he’d come to recognize—that it would be a good idea.

Be true to yourself

A good story and perhaps a fable where we are reminded to be true to our nature

Nostalgia Runs Deep

I completely enjoyed this short story. Only an author like Deaver can put such richness in his stories to have the reader leave satisfied. I would recommend this for sure!

Not even worth small$$

This story was plodding and predictable early in the narrative despite attempt to shock reader. Little to redeem ending.

Great little story

Expertly written and wonderfully narrated, this was money and time well spent. I loved it

Solid.

Deaver writes in an approachable style and that adds a surprise element to this story's ending.

Satisfying end to a short story

Story started a bit slow and as the ending approached, I felt underwhelmed and didn't see much to recommend. Since Matt have seen something coming but I sure didn't. I should have expected a shock due to Deaver's other work but I was still left shocked at the very end and could see this being expanded.

WOW!

I had to listen to the last part 2x just to make sure I heard right. Definitely didn’t see that ending coming. Good read.

Almost…

The author wrote an enjoyable novel. The actor had a good voice. Yet the combination of both was still lacking “that-bit-of-drive” to capture my attention fully. You know, like a fantastic looking gourmet dish but when you tasted it, the ingredients wasn’t enough to make you rushed for another bite. Still, it’s good enough for you to finish the entire dish and not regret after the bill and some tips.

Sneakily Excellent Short

A classic Deaver tale, complete w/ the gotcha... The 180 is jarring and deftly instrumented... Worth the small price I paid...

Repressed

I enjoyed this novella, although the story wasn't captivating. A little more excitement needed. The narration was good.
