Critic reviews

"Colleen Delany's lovely reading voice matches the book's old-fashioned formal tone, providing just the right qualities of wonder and mystery." (AudioFile)

Great book

This book is the best ever!Elizabeth Enright is a great author and the narrator is perfect! She sounds like what I would imagine Portia would sound like.👍

Enright's stories are awesome.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely.

Any additional comments?

Enright manages to write absorbing children's stories without dragging in the usual conflicts and plot devices which fill up and drag down most children's literature. She fills her stories with the stuff of real childhood -- imagined or true -- and kids eat it up. Her stories have been family favorites for years.

Old Favorite!

Such a great, wholesome old favorite from my childhood. Love the story and the narration! Only problem is you can tell it was copied to digital from cd or something. Huge amount of static/skipping around the 1 hour 8 minute mark, like listening to a cd with a scratch. Bit of a disappointment. I've listened to it from the library before with no problems. Audible should have checked the quality of the recording before selling it.
