Publisher's summary

The town of Promise, Texas, is a good place to live, to raise a family, to spend the rest of your days with the person you love.

Cal Patterson and his wife, Jane, also known as Dr. Texas, certainly think so. The last thing they expect is a threat to their marriage. But in September, disagreements begin to escalate, with the "help" of an attractive young woman who's got her eye on Cal.

After months of emotional upheaval brought on by doubts about their marriage, the two separate, and Jane returns to her childhood home in California, taking their children.

Cal, now alone on his ranch, is forced to confront what he really wants in his life, what he needs. Jane is confronting the same questions.

Another 5 star book

Debbie Macomber has written another heart touching novel. I really ejoyed it and appreciate a book based on christian values. I don't know how she does it, but she continues to write them so effortlessly.

cute story

Easy listen. A gossip fueled little town can ruin things when you have a lack of communication between the people that matter the most.

Second Time Around

Any additional comments?

I bought this book years ago, and thought I'd listen to it again. I enjoyed it just as much as the first time. I love Debbie Macomber's books. I haven't found one I didn't like. This story is so real. I love all the people in Promise, Texas and thank Ms. Macomber for creating such wonderful people to read about. Jane is a Dr. who gave up her practice to raise her family. Cal is a proud down to earth cowboy. The difficulties in Cal and Jane's marriage are definitely believable; they come from small frustrations and careless moments, as marital problems so often do in life. I found myself siding with Jane, of course, but I can see how an argument get so out of hand that one feels like there is no turning back, and what it takes to be the one to start the communication going. This is real life with a happy ending!
