Acerca de esta escucha
“Grace reigns,” says James Montgomery Boice, “not because God is gracious to us no matter what we do, but because grace has created in us a genuinely godly walk.”
Volume two, The Reign of Grace, focuses on the sovereignty, grace, and holiness of God and on the need for holiness in believers. James Montgomery Boice discusses the full meaning of salvation, the problem with suffering, the struggles of sin, and the sustaining love God pours on his people. He also discusses:
- “God’s Purpose in Human Suffering” (5:3-5)
- “Abounding Grace” (5:20)
- “Whatever Became of Sin?” (7:13)
- “The Greatest Chapter in the Bible” (8:1-39)
- “The Inheritance of God’s Saints” (8:17)
- “Five Unanswerable Questions” (8:31-36)
This expositional commentary on one of the Bible’s most popular books combines careful scholarship and clear communication in a verse-by-verse and section-by-section reading of the biblical text. Integrating thoughtful interpretation with contemporary insight for daily living, Boice explains the meaning of the text and relates the text’s concerns to the church, Christianity, and the world in which we live.

Historia
According to James Montgomery Boice, Paul’s great letter to the Ephesians is “a minicourse in theology, centered on the church”. Writing to the church in a city much like modern-day New York, Paul laid out his mature vision of the Christian faith’s central elements. The apostle set these fundamental doctrines in the context of the church as the body of Christ. In this compelling commentary, Boice presents the message of Paul with great depth and clarity.

As James Montgomery Boice points out, no book in the Bible is so filled with joy as Philippians. Even though Paul faced possible execution for his faith, he managed to remain joyful in the midst of terrible circumstances. Beyond providing encouragement, Philippians also contains a wealth of great themes. As Boice explains, it covers most of the major doctrines of the Christian faith and is at the same time extremely practical.

Moses is renowned as a great lawgiver, prophet, friend of God, and deliverer of his people. The events of his life, spanning four books of the Bible, resound throughout Scripture. In this epic undertaking, James M. Boice delves into the narrative to uncover its rich meaning and gospel application to our lives today. We can learn a lot from Moses about faithfulness, prayerfulness, meekness, and good leadership; we can even learn from his sins and failure! But Boice shows how we can also look beyond Moses and the Israelites to the awesome power of God.

Historia
In this comprehensive exposition, a leading New Testament scholar explores the unfolding theological unity of the entire Bible from the vantage point of the New Testament. G. K. Beale, coeditor of the award-winning Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament, examines how the New Testament storyline relates to and develops the Old Testament storyline. Beale argues that every major concept of the New Testament is a development of a concept from the Old and is to be understood as a facet of the inauguration of the latter-day new creation and kingdom.

From Genesis to Revelation, the providence of God directs the entire course of redemptive history. Providence is “God’s purposeful sovereignty”. Its extent reaches down to the flight of electrons, up to the movements of galaxies, and into the heart of man. Its nature is wise and just and good. And its goal is the Christ-exalting glorification of God through the gladness of a redeemed people in a new world.

Romans is the definitive statement of Christian doctrine - the most comprehensive book in the New Testament. Its impact on history is unequaled. This is the first in a trilogy (Galatians, Hebrews) on Habakkuk 2:4 - "the just shall live by faith" - which later became the mantra of the reformation. It has an international outlook: As a Roman citizen, and with both Hebrew and Greek culture of history, religion, philosophy, poetry, science, music, etc., Paul's Epistle to the Romans is the most profound writing that exists anywhere.

Historia
The gospel has come under attack since the days of the Apostles. In first-century Galatia, false teachers were creeping into churches and convincing Christians that they had to keep the law of Moses to be saved. To call these churches back from the brink of destruction, the Apostle Paul wrote what is likely his earliest letter: an unyielding defense of God’s saving grace in Jesus Christ. In this volume, Dr. R.C. Sproul guides us through Paul’s passionate letter to the Galatians.

Sproul explores the events of Jesus’ life, from His miraculous birth to His triumphant resurrection, and explains some of His most famous teachings, including the Sermon on the Mount and the Great Commission. As Dr. Sproul looks back on these crucial moments in history, he also provides pastoral wisdom on how the church is to worship and serve in the present age.

It then delves into each verse and passage, explaining the truths found within and giving valuable insight into how one can apply these truths to life. This classic volume is the result of 20 years of research by Arthur Pink, who read dozens of commentaries and gave lectures on the Epistle of Hebrews. It is one of Pink’s earlier works and originally appeared in his monthly magazine, Studies in the Scriptures. Volume one contains Chapters 1 through 53.

Wisdom, encouragement, and exhortation is contained here. Not because of the author's brilliance, but because of the words of truth contained in the gospel of John. And just as the Apostle John didn't draw any attention to himself, so also J. C. Ryle clearly and wonderfully directs his words and our thoughts toward the inspired words of scripture. If we truly love God, we will love his word; and the more we study his word, the more we will love God.

What can we gain from studying the book of Genesis? According to James Montgomery Boice, starting at the beginning of everything causes us to think about God and to understand ourselves as fallen yet redeemable. This knowledge not only deepens our understanding of the Christian faith but also enhances our ability to impart the gospel’s truth to a world desperately in need of it. This first volume on the book of Genesis, exploring chapters 1-11, shows how the story of redemption—essentially all of Scripture—has no significance apart from the story of creation and fall.
