Publisher's summary

Hap Collins and Leonard Pine are in for an action-packed adventure when they cross paths with a towering Pentecostal preacher, a midget with a giant attitude, and a gang of bikers turned soldiers of fortune.

Even though a midlife crisis just crashed into Hap Collins like a runaway pickup, he's still got his job, he knows his best friend, Leonard Pine, will always be there for him, and, of course, he's got his main squeeze, Brett Sawyer. Things hit a new low, however, when Brett's daughter, Tillie, who's been walking on the wrong side of the law, suddenly stands in need of a rescue. It won't be easy - it never is - but nothing is going to stop Hap and Leonard as they hit the road destined for Hootie Hoot, Oklahoma, to shake things up. And with Hap and Leonard at the wheel, this promises to be a wild ride.
Take another thrill ride with Hap and Leonard.

another wild ride (but a bit too much rambling dia

it was great. great story about friendship. just wish there was less Red, or I wish the characters cut off his rambling monologues sooner. wish there was more Tilly. wish Bret showed more gratitude at the end

One of the Best Hap and Leonard Novels

The first half a dozen Hap and Leonard novels are the best and this is one of the best of the bunch.

I am loving these stories

So well-written. I love the person who's narrating. Everything about the stories so entertaining. I just wish the TV show continued. I wish the network would bring that back!

Pretty good

The banter between Hap and Leonard is always good. However, some of the minor characters were absolutely annoying.

Hap & Leonard Take on Good Ole Boy Mafia Again

I cannot believe this is not worthy of Netflix time. Great stories. Hap & Leonard never disappoint and the dialog is always hilarious.

Lansdale channeling Tarantino

This installment is thankfully a lot lighter on the torture and gore compared to book 3 (Bad Chili). Oh, there’s still the usual H&L blood and guts shenanigans, but back to cableTV levels. Also, the humor, outlandish scenarios and colorful characters are back to having a more predominant role, which is great. As much as I liked Red and the preacher, the schtick about them telling long, winding tales to get to the point was laid on a little too thick, and that tendency to monologue bled over to other characters, particularly the climactic confrontation with one of the Big Bads. There’s a fine line between comedy and caricature and all that Tarantino-style speechifying took some of the edge away from that H&L grit. Not too much, though; this was still a wicked listen.

Gripping Story that Fits In a Weekend

All of Joe R Lansdale's Hap and Leonard novels are gripping noir stories. The audio versions have all been less than about eight hours in length but have still been excellent. The narrator, Phil Gigante, is nothing short of excellence. Each character has their own distinct voice that doesn't sound ridiculous. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys action, and East Texas.
