Publisher's summary

Murdoc Jern's father, an interstellar gem trader, was murdered by outlaw competitors and left behind an odd ring, large enough to fit over the finger of a space suit. With his companion Eet, a strange feline mutant with phenomenal mental powers, he soon discovered that the stone in the ring was actually a Zero Stone - an alien device left behind by an ancient vanished race - and it was the key to powers beyond human imagination.

Murdoc and Eet had to solve the secret of the Zero Stone, and very quickly, because very greedy and dangerous people wanted that ring - and wouldn't hesitate at a second murder to obtain it.

Not the Authors best

I didn't like the voice he used for the cat thing. it was grating and hard to understand. as was the old man, about half the time. other than that I liked it. it was interesting.

Who am I to review a work of …

… one of the Greats. I love her books as a teenager and 40 years later I loved it again. It might have been a trilogy if released today. But the spare verbiage enhanced the story so maybe not a trilogy. Worth a Credit for sure.

Both Star Stone books

Great to have an audio version of a pair of books that lived as a kid. They held up well. Left wanting more, or maybe just trained in todays world of book series- these two a linked and sequels in her Forerunner universe.

Great sci fi story

In my opinion one of the best Andre Nortons book - I liked is as a child and I like it as an adult. Story has a nice, relatively fast pace, it is easy to listen.

Fun story from the early years of sci-fi

I enjoyed this book, but I don’t understand why the author never wrote a sequel. Would like to have found out what happened to the main characters in the future. This really feels like books one and two of a trilogy where the third book never got written.

Memories of reading her novels over 40 years ago.

There is a reason that Andre Alice Norton was the Grandame of Science Fiction. I’m thankful that a childhood friend of mine introduced me to her novels.

Classic Norton Fore Runner stories

Forerunner foray, and Search for The Star Stones are Classic Norton. Sold Science Fiction seasoned with a touch of fantasy. I have always enjoyed scifi featuring disappeared ancient Galactic civilizations. Andre Norton was a mistress of inserting mystery to these stories.

I gave 4 stars to the narrative because the reader’s voicing of Eet seemed a bit forced, I kept thinking of Mr. Bill.

Classic Sci-fi at it's finest!

Not surprising the author was awarded the Science Fiction Grand Master Award for this book, The Zero Stone and the included sequel, Uncharted Stars. A mysterious stone, born of worlds long extinct, is the key to unimaginable powers is the quest of Murdoc Jern and his mutant feline companion, Eet. They are hunted throughout space when Murdoc comes into possession of a magnificent gem. Uncharted Stars wraps up the grand finale in the most satisfying of ways.
This would be a definite 5 star rating except for the narrator's choice of a grating falsetto for Eet's character. It is jolting and pulls the reader out of the book.

Loved The Zero Stone and Uncharted Stars at 13

This book was one of my favorite space adventures by Andre Norton. So many of her books that I haven't read in years. And some of the audio books have resulted in terrible narration. However this has been a better experience than some of the other narrators.
