Thrilling

I would read the phone book or dictionary if K. Byrne and D. Perkins wrote and read them. They are a five star duo!

The book focuses around Carlton Morley a now stringent law enforcement authority and vigilante who goes beyond the law to insure justice. His background is heart breaking, and his history follows him with those who were significant personalities of his past. Although the book touches on each of these men and how their lives intertwined with Morley's it is not necessary to have read the previous books in the series. You are seriously missing some of the best writing in fiction if you chose not to read/listen to these stories. This story is intense, mysterious, and romantic. The romance between Morley and Prudence can take your breathe away, and you don't have to wait halfway through the book to get to the raw passion. There is a good bit of rough language, but I think it adds to the believability of the story. This book could be a movie, as I could visualize every detail through it all.

If I were to have any criticism it would be that the book was to short. I believe, a follow-up of Prudence's father and family would have been a nice touch.

My hope is that Byrne and Perkins continue to collaborate on historical romantic fiction, they are my absolute favorite.

The whole series is nonstop action and intrigue

I am so impressed by your ability to write! I have listened to your entire series and I am blown away with the different characters and their backgrounds. We so often forget the imprisoned; their stories, their lives and the wickedness of prison; especially prison in earlier centuries. I have not read/listened to stories about prisoners before your series. Men who had to battle their way back to civilization, through hardships most would have given up on, with the families life gave them. Excellent, well done, well written.
And Derek, I don’t think anyone could bring those lives, those stories to life better than you have in your narration. You do all the voices, accents, and situations so well it is like being there. Exceptional narration, well done.

Wonderful

Full of adventure and love, another wonderful book from this author! Five Stars! A must read!

A new twist

I really enjoyed this book. It stayed true to the dark and dangerous theme of all the precious books but with a slightly different twist. I love that precious hero’s and heroines continue to come to life book after book, so that you may fall in love with them all over again. Very good book.

Stayed up almost all night

I could not put this down! I just loved the hero and the heroine and the story line. I can’t wait to read more books by this author!

FANTASTIC! Spicy, fun, romantic

I loved the great writing and the exceptional characters. I fell in love along with these two right from the beginning. I also shared heartbreak & and uncertainty, but unlike other similar love stories I've read, I didn’t feel frustrated with their hesitancy to the point of wanted to throttle one or both of them. Surprisingly, the characters were normalish. I understood & enjoyed their inner dialog and POVs... both! The reasonableness of their apprehension made the romance so much sweeter in the end.

Even the mystery was interesting!

Oh Derek Perkins how I’ve missed you...

Kerrigan Byrne and Derek Perkins are a dynamic duo. I love them together and I hope they never part. I’ve just finished a love-story series that pales in comparison. This story starts off steamy and keeps you engaged. Definitely worth the coin!

A bit different

Morley and Prue first meet when she mistaken him for a paid lover. This start certainly pulls you into a rather good story. I found that this book is a spin-off of a six book series that I’ll now have to go back and read. This author is new to me. If her other books are as well written as this one then I’ve found a new author to follow.

Excellently written and excellently performed!

I never write reviews of the Audible books that I listen to but this is without a doubt, one of the very best. Ms. Byrne writes with a masterful command of the English language, many of her passages bordering on prose. Add to that, the captivating voice of our narrator, the compelling and all too human characters, and the searing but tastefully written love scenes. Perfection! Bravo, Kerrigan! My goal is to experience all of your novels over the next month or so!
