Publisher's summary

Alphabet Squadron's hunt for the deadliest TIE fighters in the galaxy continues in this Star Wars adventure!

News of the New Republic's victory still reverberates through the galaxy. In its wake, the capital ships of the newly legitimized galactic government journey to the farthest stars, seeking out and crushing the remnants of imperial tyranny. But some old ghosts are harder to banish than others. And none are more dangerous than Shadow Wing.

Yrica Quell’s ragtag Alphabet Squadron still leads the search for Shadow Wing, but they're no closer to their goal - and the pressure to find their quarry before it's too late has begun to shake them apart. Determined to finish the fight once and for all, Quell works with New Republic Intelligence's contentious Caern Adan and the legendary General Hera Syndulla to prepare the riskiest gambit of her starfighting career - a trap for Shadow Wing that could finish the chase once and for all.

But in the darkness, their enemy has evolved. Soran Keize, last of the Imperial aces, has stepped into the power vacuum at the head of Shadow Wing, reinvigorating the faltering unit in their hour of need. Once adrift in the aftershocks of the war, Keize has found meaning again, leading the lost soldiers of his unit through to safety. The only thing standing in his way? The most mismatched squadron in the New Republic Navy, led by his former mentee: the traitor Yrica Quell.

storyline was intriguing and captivating, the narrator was not a good fit at all to represent the varying characters.

Screeching sounds

This was such a large step back in production value from the first book. The screeching sounds of the pilots to the lackluster atmosphere to give you depth in the story. The narrator read the words well but they fell flat on my ears, I found my self forgetting it was playing. I would not recommend this book on audio, you will get the same value by reading it your self.

Good Story, Performance Less than Expected

Overall the story was good and is a good addition to the first installment. I preferred the voice actress from the first Alphabet Squadron book, so maybe reconsider if you are looking for continuity. I think her voice would have been better for a different book.

Lack of impact

I’d say that the writing style is a little bit bland. The shocks and twists that should leave me, gasping and expectant of the next chapter fall flat. And the twist at the end was predictable from midway through the book.

I’m not sure if it’s something to do with the writing style or if it’s something to do with a content of the story, but the characters seem overly cautious and complex. Real characters wouldn’t be as meticulously overplanning every little thing. Wyl Lark is probably the most realistic character, although he’s written to be the most naïve. Every other character is a schemer strategist or has perfect luck.

Great

Great finish to the story, not excited about how it ended or that the voice actors weren’t the same but still loved the story.
