Publisher's summary

Ender's Shadow explores the stars in this all-new novel...

At the end of Shadow of the Giant, Bean flees to the stars with three of his children—the three who share the engineered genes that gave him both hyper-intelligence and a short, cruel physical life. The time dilation granted by the speed of their travel gives Earth's scientists generations to seek a cure, to no avail. In time, they are forgotten—a fading ansible signal speaking of events lost to Earth's history. But the Delphikis are about to make a discovery that will let them save themselves, and perhaps all of humanity in days to come.

For there in space before them lies a derelict Formic colony ship. Aboard it, they will find both death and wonders—the life support that is failing on their own ship, room to grow, and labs in which to explore their own genetic anomaly and the mysterious disease that killed the ship's colony.

Shadows in Flight is the fifth novel in Orson Scott Card's Shadow Series.

Too short. Didn't enjoy the abrupt ending.

I would have liked to see more development on this story. the theme was great, but the story was too short.

Authors dialogue

It’s honestly really cool to hear him speak at the end of the book like that

thoughtful book

Of course a novel about four leguminotes would be thought provoking, and the book is read with excellent quality

Good Bridge

What made the experience of listening to Shadows in Flight the most enjoyable?

I enjoy the narration in Card's audiobooks. His strength as an author is in the dialogue and the way the variety of narrators are used is excellent. This book is a good bridge in the story of Ender and Bean. It does tease you for wanting more.

What other book might you compare Shadows in Flight to and why?

This book is similar to the Paul of Dune or Winds of Dune books. They do provide background and detail to the storyline, but I'm not feeling that it is necessary to understanding the Ender universe.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Bean has to confront his children and let them know about the plans he has for them. It is very well written with strong characters getting to show their emotions and motivations. Great dialogue.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Definitely.

An end... a beginning...

Any additional comments?

This short novel picks up where Shadow of the Giant ended: Bean traveling through space at near light speed searching for a genetic cure for his 3 children who had Anton's Key turned.

Shadows in Flight is an excellent segue, concluding the Shadow series while opening up a new landscape for the Enderverse.

While Card does an excellent job filling in backstory details for new readers, it's more satisfying when read as the 5th book in the Shadow series.

Enjoy...

This got five stars because i couldn't give it 6

If you could sum up Shadows in Flight in three words, what would they be?

Bean's final story

What was one of the most memorable moments of Shadows in Flight?

The best moment is the end of the book the only true way to end a story as epic as Bean's

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Stefan Rudnicki and Scott Brick are my absolute favorite narrators putting them both in one book is makes it even better. Kriby Heybourne and Emily Jane Card are five star narrators as well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Julian Delphiki makes his final stand

Any additional comments?

I cannot wait for the last book, one day i will have that luxury

The rationale to write a short book to see if public will accept

The story itself was great except for Bean's pitiful life. But the thing that most stuck me, that shouldn't come as a take-away from entertainment of this form, was the writer's rationale for the length, stated in the epilogue, which was to see if the public would accept a shorter book. This comes at our expense. If you choose to buy the book, decide for yourself whether or not there could have been a smooth flow between the two storylines. We may accept it only because the series is entertaining. But coming back we will always feel a little more manipulated.

Interesting Read- Left me wanting more

This was a great book in terms of continuing the story. I've definitely been interested in what happened to Bean and his children after they set off into space. I'm a little disappointed that Bean and Ender don't talk as it seems like their stories now are eerily similar. This is going to be a book that appeals to only those that have read a lot of the other books and doesn't stand by itself well. The afterward talking about why he did the short form book is interesting, but for me I felt a little cheated. He wanted to do a shorter form as an experiment of bringing it out at a lower price point, but for many here it is all the same you either get 1 credit for a short book or 1 credit for a long book. This means you get significantly less book for your single credit. I look forward to continuing the story but hope that in the future I get a full book for my credit or else I won't be buying it on audible and maybe I will have to actually read it.

Another great book by Card

What did you love best about Shadows in Flight?

It completed the story about what happened to Bean and how he died.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All three kids are great..... but Ender I liked the best

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Any additional comments?

I read some not so good comments and almost did not download the book.... I'm glad I did.... I thought it was well developed and written. Those who have been following the Ender story series will love it - as a stand along book it might be a little confusing. Can't wait to read the next one later this year.
