About this listen

Who knew knitting could be so deadly!

Former-teacher-turned-reporter Deena Sharpe craves more adventure than covering dull city council meetings in the small town of Maycroft, Texas. But when she follows a hunch to investigate a story lead, she finds a dead woman strangled by a knitted scarf and becomes suspect number one.

To make matters worse, a new psychic in town has residents on edge. Strange happenings multiply as quickly as the list of murder suspects, and Deena finds herself with more adventure than she had bargained for. No pedicure is too painful and no dumpster is too deep as Deena seeks to unveil the killer before anyone else gets hurt.

Sharpe Mind, book three in the Cozy Suburbs Mystery series, offers listeners a healthy dose of intrigue along with a generous sprinkle of humor. If you like a mystery with good, clean fun, cozy up to Sharpe Mind today!

Fun Cozy Mystery

Any additional comments?

Sharpe Mind is Book 3 in the Cozy Suburbs Mystery Series and can be listened to as a standalone story. Deena Sharpe, retired teacher turned journalist, has become bored with covering dull City Council meetings and longs for a little excitement in her job. When she discovers a murdered woman, her life becomes anything but dull. Be careful what you wish for, Deena! Once again, Deena is caught up in the middle of a murder investigation and a series of strange happenings in "quaint" Maycroft, Texas.

Sharpe Mind was such a fun and entertaining listen. The story was well crafted with enough twists and turns to keep me guessing all the way through. I also enjoyed the humor and loved the relationship Deena had with her husband. Kelley Hazen does a great job with the characters and has a terrific narrative style that draws you into the story. After listening to two books in this series, I can't imagine a different narrator. If you enjoy cozy mysteries, you're sure to love Sharpe Mind and the rest of the series. With two very enthusiastic thumbs up, I highly recommend Sharpe Mind.

CLEVER & ENJOYABLE SERIES

If you take a look at all the Cozy Suburbs Mystery series from Lisa B. Thomas you see right away the clever play on words with each of the titles. And it continues right into the stories themselves. This one has Maycroft, TX beseiged by disreputable city councilmen and wayward psychics, ex dancing girls and bounty hunters. Deena Sharpe, in her ever changing search to find herself begins and ends a new career. And BFF's become even closer. There's always a moment in each Cozy Suburbs Mystery where I find I'm really worried for a character or two and SHARE MIND is no different. This is a great cozy mystery. You may not be able to figure it out !

LOVE IT!

Out of towners bring dark secrets to Maycroft and Deena Sharpe finds herself in the middle of the crime. Lots of bad guys trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the township. Lots of good guys in peril. Deena takes some chances and has to make some important decisions. A fortune teller and her good for nothing boyfriend set Maycroft on its spiritual ear and make for some pretty funny situations. This is a good cozy - good mystery, good jokes, good fun. I also look forward to what will happen to Deena in the next one. She's become a friend!

Sharpe Mind

This is book 3 in the Maycroft Mysteries series written by Lisa B. Thomas and narrated by Kelley Hazen.

Who knew a retired teacher turned reporter could find herself in the middle of so many sticky situations in such a small town. As she works to clear her name in the most recent murder, the list of suspects begins to grow...

If your looking for a humorous cozy mystery, without a doubt, this would be on my recommended list!

Another good cozy mystery by Lisa B. Thomas

Would you listen to Sharpe Mind again? Why?

Yes, I would. It's both intriguing and funny, with lots of interesting characters and twists in the plot.

What other book might you compare Sharpe Mind to and why?

Compared to other books in its genre it's rather on the good side:) The action is almost non-stop, with a few scary moments but without the gore, obviously, as it is a "cozy" mystery:) It's also well written; the plot flows smoothly and the dialogues contain that little ironic and satirical kind of humour that I like. I also think it's a little bit more complicated than the previus one in the series, with more suspects and red herrings:)

What about Kelley Hazen’s performance did you like?

As I have already mentioned in my previous reviews of books narrated by Ms Hazen, I generally like her narrations, although I prefer her "female voices" to her "male voices":) She is very good at interpreting the women characters, she is a little less convincing (for me, at least) when reading the men's parts - some of the voices still sound a bit too unnatural... On the whole, it's a very good interpretation, maybe a little "overexcited" in parts, but generally engaging for the listener. I especially liked the way Ms Hazen was able to express the characters' emotions, like surprise or fear - those were excellently done:) And I do like her acting abilities - it's like listening to a radio play rather than a book:)

If I could, I'd give the interpretation 4.5 stars:)

Not a Dull Moment!

Deena Sharpe has retired from teaching journalism and taken a job as a reporter, but it's not all it's cracked up to be. She thinks covering the city council meetings is boring and longs to be an investigative reporter. When a mysterious psychic reader and her brother move into town, Deena is assigned to write a feature on them. In the process, Deena discovers a body and is caught up in the investigation.

This was a really cute cozy mystery that was plotted well and had some clever twists. There are plenty of characters but I never got confused about which character was which. The point of view revolves between about five different people and it really kept things interesting, and it managed to still hide the truth. I couldn't guess who the killer was ahead of time!

Deena is a dear, and absolutely hilarious! I loved all the secondary characters as well.
There were so many unexpected funny moments that had me laughing out loud. Deena's relationship with her husband was really sweet. This is the third book in the series, but it's the first one I read, and it can be read as a standalone.

Kelley Hazen has the perfect voice to narrate this book, she narrates dramatically and with spirit, just like I'd imagine Deena speaking. She brought a lot of life to the story. I received a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.

An Awesome Listen

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the narrator and found it very entertaining. How much trouble can a small time journalist get herself into? A whole lot in this audiobook. The adventure never stops in this small Texan town for retire school teacher turned jounalist, Deena Sharpe. I enjoyed very much, and will be listen to more from this series.

too funny

Once again Lisa B Thomas has written another outstanding book. The wit she adds throughout is so entertaining for me to listen to. I had a few laugh out loud moments in the book.
This book wouldn't be a GREAT audio book without the help of Kelley Hazen. once again the different inflections of voices were so great. I do love her voices they make me smile.
side note- was at my mom's listening to this book and she was laughing so hard she almost peed herself.
I believe it is a must buy for everyone that needs to smile. can't wait to listen to the next one.
