Acerca de esta escucha

Revolutionary terrorists, a dead British agent, a man-eating tiger, and the Commander of the British Army cavorting with a Russian spy!

Since the assassination of Czar Alexander II in 1881, the oppression of the Russian people has increased dramatically under the rule of the new Czar, Alexander III, fueling the flames of revolution. Cirque d'Hiver, the Parisian Circus, becomes a hotbed of anti-czarist activity in France. An undercover British agent is the target of a gruesome tiger attack. If that isn't enough, the Commander-in-Chief of the British army (and the Queen's cousin) cannot be dissuaded from romancing a circus barebacked rider and wanders into the middle of a known spy ring.

Now, we have a national emergency.

Despite being a master of disguise, Sherlock Holmes is unable to infiltrate the circus as the tiger trainer's female assistant, finding that he is neither attractive nor convincing in tights. Enter Sherlock's laboratory assistant and chief bottle washer, Mirabella Hudson, whose youth and gender are her protection against suspicion.

While Sherlock enjoys a lavish Parisian hotel, solving the case in comparative luxury, and Dr. John Watson romances a circus beauty and supposed Russian spy, Sherlock orders Mirabella to face man-eating tigers. She becomes a circus performer overnight in the Cirque d'Hiver in Paris, investigating anti-czarist espionage activity, searching for a lost Zulu princess, solving the murder of a British agent, and protecting the world from the leakage of British military secrets to Russia.

Monarchies are collapsing daily and the world is on the brink of revolution. But most importantly, the game is afoot!

Good audiobook

Would you consider the audio edition of Sherlock Holmes and the Dance of the Tiger to be better than the print version?

Definitely.Te narration and the way of respecting the charakters nationality during the reading is very authentical .

Who was your favorite character and why?

Sherlock Holmes .maybe because his the main charakter .original written .good dialogs.strong character but a little bit selfish .

What does Joel Froomkin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He reads in an original way.,fluently ,a little bit to fast but still understandable .He speaks English with Russian dialekt very good,so you never miss who's talking at the moment.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The story was a bit complicated and adding the dialekt kind of reading didn't make it easier.
So it needs some breaks during the listening.

He did an amazing job reading the story which brought the characters to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

There were many times when I laughed at the story. For example, when I had to imagine Watson romancing someone...Watson!

Learning by sleuthing

First, remember that himself is 27 and Watson is 29 in this series. Then rid yourself of any Basil Rathbone-type prejudices. Think more along the lines of Cumberbatch, and you won't be hypercritical. That's important because this is great fun (or is it pun?). The publisher's blurb gives a fair overview, but doesn't convey the enjoyment that I had reading it. However, no spoilers here. So grab a lemonade and be prepared to be entertained, exasperated, and even learn a few historical things.
I received an ebook copy for free, then got the audio on sale. I win!!!

Interesting Historical Interlude for Holmes

If you could sum up Sherlock Holmes and the Dance of the Tiger in three words, what would they be?

Sherlock, Watson... and Mirabella

What other book might you compare Sherlock Holmes and the Dance of the Tiger to and why?

The author's first book in the series, Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Sword Princess (The Great Detective in Love Book 1). Sherlock and Watson are timeless literary characters. The addition of Mirabella adds a new perspective. A positive, in this case. There is quite a glut of work riding on the coat tails of Conan Doyle. Much of it not as well done as this series by Suzette Hollingsworth A fantastic historical setting with lots of intrigue awaits Sherlock and the readers. A lot is added by Joel Froomkin's narration. But I'm a sucker for Russian history.

What does Joel Froomkin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I had a bit of trouble adapting to his characterizations and voice acting for each character. But after a half hour or so I appreciated the talent he has as a narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Period portrayed, the tragedy of the Czars, their families and the social upheaval.

Happily Surprised

I am a BIG Laurie King fan, but I have read all of her books. I also Love adding a woman detective to the plot. When I saw these I decided to give it a try. This is the second book in the series. It is a much lighter story then Kings much darker more true to life stories but, It is funny and Sherlock is his own introverted unapologetic self. So Enjoyable reading.

Sherlock Holmes in all his glory

A great revitalization of a classic character. Holmes and Watson are back. Irene Adler and moriarty make their appearance. A new character to the mix as well. Well written and well read. Bares many of the Holmes classic feel with a number of twists to them. Truly enjoyable. Will look for more in this new series.
