Publisher's summary

From the author of the New York Times best seller Fish in a Tree comes a compelling story about perspective and learning to love the family you have.

Delsie loves tracking the weather - lately, though, it seems the squalls are in her own life. She's always lived with her kindhearted Grammy, but now, she's looking at their life with new eyes and wishing she could have a "regular family". Delsie observes other changes in the air, too - the most painful being a friend who's outgrown her.

Luckily, she has neighbors with strong shoulders to support her, and Ronan, a new friend who is caring and courageous but also troubled by the losses he's endured. As Ronan and Delsie traipse around Cape Cod on their adventures, they both learn what it means to be angry versus sad, broken versus whole, and abandoned versus loved. And that, together, they can weather any storm.

Critic reviews

“A richly embroidered cast of characters, a thoughtful exploration of how real friends treat one another, and the true meaning of family all combine to make this a thoroughly satisfying coming-of-age tale. Cape Cod is nicely depicted - not the Cape of tourists but the one of year-round residents - as is the sometimes-sharp contrast between residents and summer people. Hunt has crafted another gentle, moving tale of love and loss: the value of the one and the importance of getting over the other.” (Kirkus Reviews)

“Limned in northeastern sea salt and Adirondack chairs, Hunt’s latest offering explores those frustrating preteen years when friends become enemies and family is at once embarrassing and desired... Hunt creates a realistic sketch of small-town life and the agonies of growing up in an imperfect family.... The thematic elements of tweenage angst are timeless and relatable.” (School Library Journal)

Family, friendship, heartaches, and exploring life

Beautifully written book by Lynda Mullaly Hunt and narrated by Lisa Cordileone. From start to finish, the listener/reader will taken to Cape Cod and see life through the eyes of Delsie’s eyes. So many storms in her life will be calmed. Highly recommend!

Hand down one of the best books ever!!!!

I love this author and have listened to all her books fish in a tree which is a story about a girl named ally and one for the Murphy which is a book about Carley Connors ( which is my personal favorite because I see a lot of myself In her) and last but not least shouting at the rain which is a book about an orphan who’s mother left her and she never knew her father
Delsie meets a boy named ronan and quickly they become best friends they except each other for who they are but most of all they have one major thing in common. Their mothers didn’t want them

I absolutely loved this book and would recommend it too everyone I cried through this one so much it is just such a heart warming story

Lynda Mullally hunt is my favorite author all three of her books have action, sadness, joy but most of all love.

I feel like I can relate to all of these books there was a time in my life I felt dumb but I hid it and quite often acted out just to hide it and there was also a time when I felt like I was not wanted not loved and I wanted other peoples family’s and not long ago a I felt kinda like Delsie…. I had a friend that I loved so very dearly and one day they just decided I was not good enough for them and that’s when I realized they changed…shortly after that I felt like I wasn’t wanted and unloved

I wrote all that to say I love this book it is so good I it is hands down one of my favorite books❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Ps Lynda if your reading this thank you for making my world so much better
