Authentic Benedictine Chants You Can Learn at Home

Fifteen-hundred years ago, St. Benedict established a system of ora et labora prayer and work that monastics still follow today. Central to this prayerful integration of body and spirit is psalmody, or chanting the psalms. In Singing the Psalms, Episcopal priest Cynthia Bourgeault shows how the psalms can awaken rich spiritual and psychological insights accessible to you today, whatever your level of vocal skill or theological understanding.

EXCELLENT introduction

This is an excellent introduction to chanting in the Christian tradition. The Audible version would benefit from a pdf download of the song book.

Loved listening to this

Would you listen to Singing the Psalms again? Why?

yes - I found the chants/singing soothing

Who was your favorite character and why?

no characters

Which character – as performed by Cynthia Bourgeault – was your favorite?

no characters

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I enjoyed singing along with her

Any additional comments?

I agree with another reviewer in that a pdf download of the Psalms they were singing would have made this so much better. She mentions several times 'your book' but there's no book. a lot was repetitious so I could pick up the words but would have been nice to have had a book

A Much Appreciated Perspective

While participating in one of Cynthia's Introductory Wisdom Schools I listened to this book. I've added the Psalms to my times of devotion and it is definitely enriching my times of devotion. Cynthia provides a concrete historical framework for the practices outlined in the book as well as many examples of chanting. I highly recommend it. -scott

Modern Episcopal English Chant

This female Episcopal minister has a middle of the road voice. Her comments are modern self reflective and run in favor of New Age beliefs. I was looking for how to chant the Palms in Latin Gregorian chant, so disappointed.
