About this listen

The next-to-last novel in Stephen King's seven-volume magnum opus, Song of Susannah is a fascinating key to the unfolding mystery of the Dark Tower.

To give birth to her "chap", demon-mother Mia has usurped the body of Susannah Dean and used the power of Black Thirteen to transport to New York City in the summer of 1999. The city is strange to Susannah...and terrifying to the "daughter of none" who shares her body and mind.

Saving the Tower depends not only on rescuing Susannah but also on securing the vacant lot Calvin Tower owns before he loses it to the Sombra Corporation. Enlisting the aid of Manni senders, the remaining ka-tet climbs to the Doorway Cave...and discovers that magic has its own mind. It falls to the boy, the billy bumbler, and the fallen priest to find Susannah-Mia, who in a struggle to cope, with each other and with an alien environment, "go todash" to Castle Discordia on the border of End-World. In that forsaken place, Mia reveals her origins, her purpose, and her fierce desire to mother whatever creature the two of them have carried to term.

Eddie and Roland, meanwhile, tumble into western Maine in the summer of 1977, a world that should be idyllic but isn't. For one thing, it is real, and the bullets are flying. For another, it is inhabited by the author of a novel called Salem's Lot, a writer who turns out to be as shocked by them as they are by him.

Set in a world of extraordinary circumstances, filled with stunning visual imagery and unforgettable characters, The Dark Tower series is unlike anything you've ever heard. Here is Stephen King's most visionary piece of storytelling, a magical mix of fantasy and horror that may well be his crowning achievement. Critic reviews

"There's something about a crippled, black, schizophrenic, civil rights activist-turned-gunslinger whose body has been hijacked by a white, pregnant demon from a parallel world that keeps a seven-volume story bracingly strong as it veers toward its Armageddon-like conclusion....The biggest cliffhanger of King's career." What makes a good audiobook series? There are as many answers to this question as there are listeners. For some, it might be epic battles. For others, it might be ongoing romantic twists and tensions. For still others, it might be elongated character studies or an in-depth analysis of a particular time and place. But the universal element of a truly great series is that it sticks with you long after the last word. These are our favorites from every major genre.

Undoing the writer's block!

This series just keeps getting better as the pages pass... now we have revealed the ultimate writer's paradox, a story that takes on it's own life - whose character's ask the writer to keep writing! I, for one, don't want this series to ever end. In this book, Stephen King (with the help of his characters) starts to pull all of the loose strings together. You won't want to miss this one. However, you can't start with this book - read the previous 5 first or you will be lost for sure!

Fantasic, King's Lord of the Rings

This is one of the most fantastic stories I have ever read. It rivals Tokien's Lord of the Rings in its complexity.

Wordslinger back in the saddle

Imaginative plot development weaving all the threads into the changing tapestry of this epic. Sometimes it's chilling, sometimes it's like one of those moments in the old "road pic's" from the past where characters look out at you then draw you in making you chuckle.

The Story Continues

Short, but sweet. I'm excited to see where it goes next. the anticipation is overwhelming in this book and serves as a great segway into the next installment.

See the TURTLE

See the TURTLE of enormous girth! On his shell he holds the earth. His thought is slow but always kind; he holds us all within his mind .On his back all vows are made; he sees the truth but mayn't aid. He loves the land and loves the sea, And even loves a child like me.

as always an absolutely amazing story told by King the fact that he tied so many different genres and storylines from other authors into this as well as his own is incredible.

These Stories Are So Good

I loved this one just as much as I loved the last ones. I am so sad and happy that I am almost done with this series. I need to know if Roland makes it to the dark tower!

So many twists and turns.

What made the experience of listening to Song of Susannah the most enjoyable?

The fact that I didn't have to read, and could work while listening to the supurb narator of the story.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jake, he's so likeable and with Oy at his side, I thing Oy makes him and Oy is so lovable and faithful.

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

All George's read are good, how does he do so many voices and keep them straight??

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Eddy was soooo trying to find Suzanna and the door sent them elsewhere.

A Series No King Fan Should Ignore

There are so many things good about this series it becomes hard to try and write a review about a single angle of it. I am a Stephen King fan and enjoy most of his tales, but this is his epic series. The one that has spanned decades and encompassed nearly all of his works in some aspect or another. Like the story itself, the Dark Tower is the hub of the wheel that goes around and out. To any SK fan, this is a series you must read.
