About this listen

What you see is a lie.

Emily Glass thought a move to Atlanta was just what she needed to jump-start a new life. But after her roommate and best friend is attacked by a man with superhuman strength, she discovers an underworld to Atlanta she never expected.

Recruited by a strange organization with an enigmatic agenda to help apprehend the attacker, she soon finds herself doing strange side jobs for them. To make things more complicated, the boss at her day job expresses romantic interest. Despite her misgivings, she finds him irresistible and senses that, like Atlanta, there may be a lot more to the man than what she sees on the surface.

Unfortunately, there are secret organizations that know his true nature and will stop at nothing to capture him and destroy everything they have.

Wow! That Sucked

I am close to the end of the main story of The Overworld Chronicles. I have really enjoyed them. At one point it became obvious I had to read the Conrad Edison books before I continued. Right before Utopia Undone. I enjoyed his books too. Then it became obvious I needed to read Emily’s books to get her back story before I went even further. After listening to Conrad’s books it was obvious I should have listen to Emily’s first since she is mentioned there too. After listening to this first one of her books I was severely let down. Where to start. It’s nothing but a cheesy BAD romance novel. Weak story. It was like it wasn’t even the same author. Emily is kind of stuck up and unlikable. It seemed like she mainly cared about the guy’s money and looks and forcing that to be a love story. The narrator was terrible too. Imagine a valley girl with a British accent. Now listen to that for 12 hours. Did nothing to help liking Emily’s character. It took 2/3 of the book to get to anything significant with the supernatural. I REALLY hope the other two books are good. Believe the other reviews. This was terrible. I would hate to say to skip it but Emily becomes important at some point in the main story of The Overworld Chronicles so her story is probably needed to get a background on her.

Accidentally bought before listening to sample

If I had noticed that Austin Rising wasn’t the narrator, I prob would have skipped this side story of the overworld chronicles. She is awful to listen to after Rising’s brilliance. And the story was very meh. Hardly any magic and awesome fantasy fun, lots of girly, romance novel stuff. But now I feel like I should read the next 2 books just because they’ve GOT to be better and have more action (that isn’t bedroom action). I feel like this whole story could have been half a story or less.

paranormal romance, not sci-fi and fantasy

i was hoping for a good paranormal thriller with a kick*ss heroine but nope, this is a romance novel with a thin veneer of paranormal to pull in shmucks like me.

seriously, paranormal romance should be in the romance section and not sci-fi and fantasy.

it's irritating. i feel like i wasted my money just to listen to 12 hrs of a girl talking about her feelings, sex, and ice cream, not to mention the long paragraphs about makeup, purses, besties, the right shoes and the repetitive narration of how the ML made her feel tingly. oh, and there's some scary guy biting people and other guys trying to recruit her, but that's not important, whats important is how she needs and wants the ML and how tingly he makes her.
i don't mind a romance in my paranormal story but this story is all romance in the most annoying ways.
sigh....i thought it would be safe because there was no half naked man on the cover but i was wrong.
