Publisher's summary

Kallie

I fell in love with him when I was seven. I scraped my knee, and he helped carry me inside. Our love story was the talk of the town until a woman told everyone she was pregnant with his baby. The only rational solution was to high-tail it out of town and never come back.

My best friend needed a place to hide, and you can’t get much more covert than my family farm, so I came back. For her. It was supposed to be temporary, and I wasn’t supposed to see him, but that’s what happens when you live in a small town where everyone knows each other.

Jacob

Being the sheriff in a small town was never my dream. My father died and my older brother took off, so I had to be the one to look after my mother. I stayed. I fulfilled my duties as a son and I protected my hometown.

My life wasn’t perfect, but I was content - until I locked eyes with a ghost from my past, Kallie. I thought it was my imagination; it couldn’t be her. I loved her most of my life, but now I hated her.

The town gossip mill was going into overdrive. I kept my head down and my mind off of the woman who shattered my heart when she ran away. She didn’t give me a chance to explain; it didn’t matter to her then. I didn’t matter.

A second chance is never promised, but now that mine is right under my nose, I’m not sure I can take it.

Great read

This book has the perfect mix of all the elements we love in an exceptional romance. You'll fall head over toes for Kallie and Jacob as they become the best versions of themselves on their road to forever, and their story is one you won’t soon forget. Brian Palino & Morais Almeida do a wonderful job portraying & bringing the characters to life.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

I went into this book blind and hadn't read any other books by Natasha Madison. Wowzer y'all! This book takes you to the south, rips out your heart while you fall in love with ALL the characters, then you are put back together and wanting more!

Kallie and Jacob were your classic story of small town kids who loved each other their whole lives, then everything falls apart and Callie bails. Years later they are forced to interact again and it's kinda brutal for both of them. I oooohhhh'd awwwww'd and wtf'd several times throughout the book but I loved every minute of it .

I can't wait to read the next book of the Southern series (8 total), Olivia and Casey are my favorite of the non main characters in the first book and I just know I'm going to love their story!

The narrators did a great job, this was my first listen to both of them.

Loved it

What a great story. A while back, I started by reading the second book in the series and loved it but I hadn’t read the first book. Well, I finally read it and I loved it. This book is awesome. So well written and gosh did I use a few of my emotions. I really suggest you read this one and then go onto the next in the series. So well worth it.

good

Jacob & Kallie: when Kallie's best friend finds out something she shouldn't have about her boyfriend, she and Kallie go on the run. Until they end up in the safest place Kallie knows... Home. Home where she hasn't been in 8 years due to the man she loved breaking her heart. The "danger" seems to take a back seat while the romance story goes on. There's a lot of anger between Jacob and Kallie and we don't fully learn why until halfway through the book. Jacob has done the unimaginable and it drives Kallie away when they were kids. Now that she's back and apparently in danger and he's the sheriff, he has vowed to protect the women despite the anger they feel. The book is good, I just wish there was more of an explanation as to why Jacob had to do what he did as a kid and also I wish the reason for the protection was more prevalent in the story and not just talked about. But there's definitely chemistry between the characters and the are really hot 🔥.

Good story

This was a great story even tho I still wanted to hurt Savanna. And who is Liam? The male character narration was terrible but it was tolerable. Where is Teddy Hamilton or Zach Webber when you need them?
