About this listen

When a troop of alien warriors demands the return of an imprisoned comrade - a prisoner no one on Deep Space Nine knows anything about - Commander Benjamin Sisko has a deadly fight on his hands. Under sudden attack from the heavily armed warriors, Sisko and his crew struggle desperately to repel the invaders and save the lives of everyone on board. Meanwhile, a strange device from the Gamma Quadrant has shifted Ferengi barkeeper Quark and Security Chief Odo three days into the future to a silent Deep Space Nine littered with the bodies of their fallen crewmates. To save the station they must discover what caused the invasion to take place - and find a pathway back through time itself.

It Was Okay

I got this audiobook since the late Rene Auberjonis passed away back in December of last year, I thought it would be nice to hear him reprise his role as “Odo”. I thought he did alright capturing “Quark” compared to the rest of the DS9 crew, but nonetheless still a good job. The story was “meh”.

Gripping but unrealistic

The story was one big catastrophe another so compelling, well narrated and the writing was okay but anyone who knows the series wouldnt feel all the characters ring true.

Well performed with a slightly underwhelming story

Rene is of course wonderful, though some of his character voice choices were a bit odd.

The premise of the story was actually quite good, but winds up feeling like the author had a deadline to hit and rushed to complete it, giving it a somewhat incomplete feel. And I don't mean just the end, it is just like they went from outline to finished without putting in the details that could have taken it from good to great.

I'd recommend it for someone like me that is (was) craving anything DS9 to help fill in some story. You must already have a full and deep understanding of DS9 and these characters, otherwise, you will be left unsatisfied since you won't have the knowledge and understanding to fill in some of the gaps in the story.

action from start to finish

A very enjoyable audiobook. I loved the reader and the story line was first rate star trek. There were many tense moments portrayed in this audiobook that enhanced the listening experience. Just a good time.

Gory and Violent

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No, it was extremetly dark, violent and morbid. It takes you in detail through the deaths of many of your favorite characters. It was like a Star Trek bad dream.

Would you ever listen to anything by Dafydd ab Hugh again?

No. I did not like the the wording and writing style were odd. The story itself was extremely negative and gruesome.

Have you listened to any of Rene Auberjonois’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, I haven't, but his performance was very enjoyable.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. It would definitely be rated R if it was made into a movie.

Any additional comments?

It was a very disappointing audiobook. This seems like a story that was killed by the censors for being too gory for the series, so they wrote a book instead.

Super!

This is one of my favorite Star Trek books of all time, in any of the series. The audiobook production heightens the excitement of the actual book. Even though I knew the story well, I couldn't stop listening. Rene Auberjonois gives a superb performance.

Yes, Yes! This is the one Deep Space Nine audiobook you should definitely buy!

All of the major characters face some sort of challenge. The resolution was even better.

Yes, but to share those moments, would be spoilers and I don't want to do that.
