Publisher's summary

ONE OF TIME MAGAZINE’S 100 BEST YA BOOKS OF ALL TIME • NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

A modern-day classic from Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli, this beloved celebration of individuality is now an original movie on Disney+!

And don't miss the author's highly anticipated new novel, Dead Wednesday!

Stargirl. From the day she arrives at quiet Mica High in a burst of color and sound, the hallways hum with the murmur of “Stargirl, Stargirl.” She captures Leo Borlock’s heart with just one smile. She sparks a school-spirit revolution with just one cheer. The students of Mica High are enchanted. At first.

Then they turn on her. Stargirl is suddenly shunned for everything that makes her different, and Leo, panicked and desperate with love, urges her to become the very thing that can destroy her: normal. In this celebration of nonconformity, Newbery Medalist Jerry Spinelli weaves a tense, emotional tale about the perils of popularity and the thrill and inspiration of first love.

Don’t miss the sequel, Love, Stargirl, as well as The Warden’s Daughter, a novel about another girl who can't help but stand out.

“Spinelli is a poet of the prepubescent. . . . No writer guides his young characters, and his readers, past these pitfalls and challenges and toward their futures with more compassion.”—The New York Times

I could read/listen to this 100 times

I first read this book whenever I was 15 and I fell in love with it then. It was a book that stuck with me and I can't ever forget it. I'm 29 now and decided to try this as my first audible book, because I wanted to try audible with something I was familiar with and I have had this book stuck in my brain since the day I finished it. I was so excited when I saw that John Ritter was the narrator too, I've always loved him as well. His narration truly did the story justice and it really felt as if he was a grown Leo. This book will never get old.

My daughter made me read it.

She had good taste in books. "You just have to decide whose love is more important to you."

Every Time

The story of Star Girl will always make me smile. She reminds me of a childhood friend that to this day I wonder where she is and who she became. I think everyone should have a Star Girl in their life. Those who don't, truly will never understand what it's like to imagine.

Stargirl

Stargirl was such an amazing book I would've done more for shadowing I figured out the whole neck tie part right from the start but over all I really did enjoy the book I wish Leo had been different and didn't care what purple thought and just stayed and loved Stargirl or asked her to the ball
