Using a travel guide format, she acts as tour guide extraordinaire, describing and critiquing every aspect of this territory she knows so well: its people (young and old, male and female); familiar phrases ("purl this, darn that"); strange beliefs; currency (skein trading); etiquette; holidays (any sale day at the local yarn shop); and customs. She notes important dates in knitting history and celebrates unsung knitting heroes, from the samurai warriors of Japan to the "Terrible Knitters of Dent". And, while the land of knitting is a mostly peaceful place, it does have its controversies, such as the acrylic vs. natural fibers and circular vs. straight needles debates, which Pearl-McPhee visits with relish and glee.

wonderful book for anyone who knits

Stephanie brings her usual dry humor to this book. It had me laughing aloud often.

If you don't knit or aren't interested in knitting, you won't get the jokes, but if you love to knit you really should listen to this -- ideally, while knitting!

l just love listening to this book.i lister to it on my daily comute to work i wish i could het all her books in audio.

I often times listen to Audible books while knitting, and this one is a good one.

I recommend this Audible book with a 10 out of 10 in all categories. Unfortunately, I can only rate it 5 stars or less.

Perfect listening for the knitter

I never thought I would listen to a knitting book, but an afternoon with the Yarn Harlot and my yarn and sticks was filled with laughter, and I am on my way back to Audible to look for another. I only wish it were longer.

Excellent and witty

I love hearing Stephanie read her own books. She is a witty, intelligent writer and it is a real treat to hear her read the words with the pauses and inflections she intended when she was writing them.

The book itself is very enjoyable and full of the expected knitterly humour. I have listened to this book several times.

I can't wait for more of Stephanie's books to become available by audiobook.

I hope she continues to record her books. I have all her printed books but only two audiobooks.

One of my favorites!

I am super picky about my audiobooks (one reason why I love audible's return policy), but this has got to be one of my favorites. I am a knitter, and if you are not a knitter or gifting this book to a knitting friend, kind of a hard sell. But if you do knit, and love to knit, and knitting makes you happy, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. I'm listening to it for maybe the third time. Her writing, the themes, the narration-- it all just makes me so happy. Incredibly uplifting and cute book that never ceases to entertain my mind.
