Mixed bag

Pros:
Cory (an awesome character all around)
Ambiance

Cons:
Local cops (the whiniest bunch of law enforcement officers I recall seeing in a single book, behaving more like girl scouts on Halloween than like hardened cowboy country cops they are)
The perp (far more powerful and dangerous than he has any right to be, given the backstory)

great change of pace but

the "chase" at end was a bit too drawn out and a bit too predictable...

I always enjoy listening to Preston & Childs. Pendergast is on my top ten characters list. I especially liked the fact that there were parts of this reading that made me uncomfortable and on edge, like the awful and weird "sound" in the chases. I seldom get actually scared, but this one did it several times. It was a bit out there in being believable. But that was okay it is imagination and fiction. Anyone wanting to just listen to a good read should get this, it doesn't have to be in the time line of the series. I like caves and cornfields that pretty much sums it up. But, I will never go in either one again without wanting to keep looking behind me. Buy it ! Certainly will keep your attention.

Best narrator!

Great story made even better by Mr. Brick. Definitely one of the best narrators I have heard in a long time!

Action packed!

As good as the first, a great book that's hard to put down. looking forward to the next one.

GREAT EXPERIENCE

A lot more physical action in this one and just the right amount of realistic horror and suspense. As always, the writing is superb, evoking a perfect blend of fear and revulsion. This version was so much more enjoyable for having Scott Brick narrating. He delivers Pendergast's character and smooth, slippery voice just as I imagine it would be if that character were real. So very much better than Mr. Auberjeaunois' version!!! Mr. A's version is far too reedy, nasal, and high pitched to realistically carry off an enjoyable smooth, charismatic, Southern drawl!! Loved this experience all the more because of Mr. Brick's performance!

I like the readers voice and I have listened to this book more times than I can count.

As usual well written and haunting tale well told and voiced. Deeply troubling story that will keep you wondering what is really out there in the dark

What made the experience of listening to Still Life with Crows the most enjoyable?

Very good thriller. The characters were not your typical.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pedagass-because he was unique. Can't figure him out.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, perfect book for a long drive.

The characters are described so well.

The story is so original, so different than other mystery/thrillers. Definitely recommend this book.
