About this listen

Embarking early one Sunday morning on an innocent road trip from Greenville, South Carolina, to the hills of North Carolina, the unsuspecting husband and wife team of Tom and Linda Kupec had no idea that their one-day trek would turn into a 54-week adventure of a lifetime.

South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, and Alabama. Each weekend, the couple discovered a new church that was still preaching the word of God, even if the worship service was a bit different than what they were used to. Mega churches and tiny ones. Liturgical services and charismatic ones. Cotton fields, football fields, and battlefields. The highest mountains east of the Mississippi River. The largest army base in the country. Breathtaking sunrises rivaled only by the splendor of the changing autumn leaves. Four separate trips to the Atlantic Ocean.

Through it all God was showing Tom and Linda the indescribable joy of being in the center of God’s will, being led by his spirit to places they had never been, both physically and spiritually. God showed them the vastness of his body, the church. They encountered people with humble hearts looking to serve their savior. Hungry hearts aspiring to mature in their walk with God. People in churches that proclaim the risen Christ. Churches proclaiming the Lordship of Jesus despite the continuing decay of an increasingly secular society. Churches graciously embracing the couple from South Carolina with their New York accents.

Sundays in the South is the story of God’s redemption and his faithfulness to a couple who has not always been faithful to him. It’s a story of a God faithful to his church despite its warts and blemishes. Follow along with Tom as he recounts their year-long trek and perhaps be inspired to take a journey of your own.

Really Interesting Perspective

This was a pretty cool read/listen! Tom and Linda attend over 50 churches throughout the year. It's an interesting perspective to hear from church visitors at over 50 locations - what is memorable to them, what connections and relationships are formed from their journey, and how God uses this experience to encourage Tom and Linda as well as the people they encounter. There's a lot packed into this book - lots of spiritual encouragement, insight into churches in the south, and a unique perspective regarding what the Lord is doing in His church!

An Interesting Biopic

I'm personally not a big fan of faith-based media. Among many reasons that I won't have time to go into since each would open a different can of worms (some bigger than others), one of the main reasons why is that one doesn't have to watch much of it to get that all it is is a function of supply and demand. To add insult to injury, when one is basing his/her work, albeit fiction, non-fiction, tv show, talk show, book, movie, whatever the case may be, they're opening themselves up to an even more higher standard of criticism. What I said is not just with non-believers, but also those within doctrinally sound circles. It is written that anyone who teaches the Word will be held to a higher standard of judgement and that we are test all things and refute those that contradict. All that said, I am not saying that there aren't good, if not great works of art within the faith-based genre because they are indeed out there and this book is no exception. An interesting biopic of a preacher and his wife traveling the Bible-Belt as told through weekly sermons. When it comes down to faith-based content that I frequently listen to, I have taken a liking towards apologetics and discernment ministries. The sermons that are contained within are great and doctrinally sound, though there were a few things that I disagreed with and some that did need a little elaboration. But, other than that, the differences that I had were minor. If anyone thinks that the Christian lifestyle of walking in the will of God is nothing but a lifestyle of seclusion and isolation, this book will definitely prove the contrary.

A Wonderful Journey

Such a wonderful journey to share with the author and his wife! It's really fascinating to hear from someone who attended so many churches throughout the year. There were so many great spiritual nuggets and memorable stories shared, both from Tom's life and from this journey throughout the south. I would love to read more from this author!

Couldn’t listen to it!

The message was great, but I could not listen to the narrator. It was like he was speaking to a bunch of 2nd graders!
