Publisher's summary

Audie Award Finalist, Thriller/Suspense, 2014

For 25 years, Robert Crais has written extraordinary novels of crime and suspense. He is "a master of crime fiction" (Associated Press); "his novels get better with every new book" (Portland Oregonian); "Crais is hands-down the world’s greatest crime writer" (The Huffington Post).

But in Suspect, he may have written his most remarkable novel of all.

LAPD cop Scott James is not doing so well, not since a shocking nighttime assault by unidentified men killed his partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty - until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. The German shepherd survived three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan sniffing explosives before she lost her handler to an IED and sniper attack, and her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. He was a young cop on the rise; she was bred to guard and protect. Now they are shunned and shunted to the side. They are suspect. And together they will set out to investigate the one case that no one wants them to touch: the identity of the men who murdered Stephanie.

Nine months and sixteen days later, they remained free. They were still out there.

What they begin to find is nothing like what Scott has been told, and where it will lead them will take them both through the darkest moments of their own personal hells. Whether they will make it out again, no one can say.

Thrilling, emotional, intense, with some of the best characters and well-crafted writing in all of crime fiction, Suspect is further proof that "Crais just keeps getting better" (Publishers Weekly).

Best book since Harry Potter Series

This book is PHENOMENAL! It hit all the emotions and the ending was great. The narrator is in my top 2 narrators of all time--up there with Jim Dale. This book was captivating from the 1st sentence to the very last sentence. Loved the different perspectives, including the dog's--it was believable without going over the top into cheesy territory. If you don't mind an occasional cuss word--and I don't--this is a kid friendly book, too. This is one book I will listen to MANY more times!

Fantastic!!!

I absolutely LOVED this book!! So exciting and well written but the best part was the touching relationship between Scott and Maggie his K9. I am a huge dog lover so this was very special to me. The only negative aspect of this book is that it ended :(
I would LOVE a whole series with ALL these characters especially Leland, the K9 trainer. He was awesome!! I just hope there will be more 🙏

A bit corny but enjoyable overall.

A lot is dedicated towards dogs and their greatness. If you like dogs you can definitely relate. A man’s best friend.

What a great atory

Big fan of Mr. Crais and his ability to write these characters to life. MacLeod Andrews is an amazing actor. These two together have made this particular story one of my all time favorites to listen to over and over. The character development is great and it is a little different pace compared to the Elvis Cole storyline. Very fun, very real, very worth the listen.

Crais does it for me, again...

First Cole, the Pike & now Maggie. I've begun my unabridged audio RC collection intending to replace my physical books, BUT those are signed. I guess I get to keep more of Joe, and Elvis and of course Maggie. Can't wait for Racing the Light!!!

Creative Characterization

You know you are in for a ride when the author brings out tears in the first chapter of a suspense novel.

Well done and narrated with excellence.

Informative and enjoyable.

I learned some things about canine training and service while enjoying a good well written story.
