What is the hardest challenge you’ve faced as a student of the Tagalog language? You can work hard on your grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, but being able to communicate naturally isn’t easy. In fact, the toughest part of learning Tagalog is knowing how to speak like a native. Most textbooks are made to teach you the traditional rules and structures of a language, and are great for getting around the grammar and spelling questions you may have.

When Lila Macapagal moves back home to recover from a horrible breakup, her life seems to be following all the typical rom-com tropes. She's tasked with saving her Tita Rosie's failing restaurant, and she has to deal with a group of matchmaking aunties who shower her with love and judgment. But when a notoriously nasty food critic (who happens to be her ex-boyfriend) drops dead moments after a confrontation with Lila, her life quickly swerves from a Nora Ephron romp to an Agatha Christie case.

Historia
Jose Rizal’s two novels Noli Me Tangere and its sequel El Filibusterismo are beloved classics in The Philippines. Here, they are read with characteristic flair by Academy-Award Nominee Richard E. Grant, who apart from his work in Film and TV, is well-loved by audiobook listeners. It might be fiction, but it is also Philippine history. Rizal travelled to Europe as a student and wrote these books there under difficult circumstances. His friends helped ship them back to Manila where the books were swiftly banned by the Spanish authorities.

Historia
Dr. Jekyll (Vanessa Kirby) is an elite international specialist in energy systems, working closely with her handler Louis (David Oyelowo) in a career that takes her across the globe to politically volatile territories such as Iran and North Korea. But when an arms dealer accuses her of having killed his family, Dr. Jekyll begins to question details of her life, who Louis really is, and whether her strange recurring dream has a greater meaning. She enlists the help of psychologist Sigrun (Sofie Gråbøl), and together they delve into Dr. Jekyll’s darker other side, a brutal assassin named… Hyde.

Are you interested in learning Tagalog for a trip to this wonderful Austronesian nation? Perhaps you wish to talk like a native Filipino and get on with the locals? This book is for you! Tagalog is one of the less spoken and rarer languages you’ll find around Southeast Asia and the world, which makes your interest in it very special! Because of this, we’ve created a very entertaining book that will help you master the language of the Philippines, an archipelagic country in Southeast Asia.

Tagalog Down & Dirty is your guide to the Tagalog you won't learn in the other books. Sex, drugs, alcohol, insults, obscenities, dirty talk, curse words, slurs about your mind, body, and sexual equipment, the supernatural, gambling, and “gay language” - which gay men use to hide their meaning from the general population. Best of all, words for lovers and would-be lovers.

Great resource for Tagalog immersion
The audio book Tagalog Short Stories for Beginners is a must-have supplement to its Kindle counterpart. In the dire situation with Tagalog language resources for beginners and intermediates this audio book + kindle book are gems. The language used in the book is reasonably plain and simple. It's not street Tagalog, mind you, but good, proper language. At the same time it's easily usable in a day-to-day conversation. The level is not suitable for early beginners, but if you are already comfortable with Tagalog grammar and have a decent vocabulary, this is a great bridge to the native-level resources. The audio quality is good. The voice actor has done other recordings for Tagalog language learning materials, and articulates it very well, but without sounding like a textbook. Very important for an immersive style reading! Overall this is a great find and I can't wait for the next one in the series!
