Publisher's summary

Losing Lucian McKenzie, the prince of her heart, and discovering her true identity has made Elena Watkins' life almost unbearable. However, new trials will test the 17-year-old's strength and push her to limits she didn't think were possible.

Only a mysterious offer from Blake Leaf, the Rubicon and a dragon predestined for evil, reveals that there may be a light at the end of Elena's dark tunnel.

With the life she thought she knew crashing down around her, Elena will have to face a monumental decision about the fate of Paegeia. She can either make peace with Blake's demands or try once again to unravel the queen's secrets that lie deep within her dragon Tanya La Frey's heart.

Draws you in

Book 3 in this series evoked more emotion than I have experienced in a book for a long time. Elena is so dumb at times and it was frustrating to experience her excessive denial towards her destiny but her interchanges with Lucian from the grave are so heartbreaking that I actually shed a couple of tears! I love the relationship that emerges between Cora and Elena. This part of the story was masterfully written and played out. The whole story unravels In Some surprising ways; I am downloading book 4 as I write!

Fun story, needs a bit more cutting

If you could sum up Frostbite in three words, what would they be?

fun, escapist, darkening

What other book might you compare Frostbite to and why?

There are similarities to Harry Potter, King Arthur, Narnia, etc. It's got qualities of magic, secret places, lost heirs and a need to fight off a great evil.

Have you listened to any of Erin Moon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to Erin perform through all three books available for audio. She does a decent job. I felt like I was listening to William Shatner a few too many times because of her cadence but otherwise, I thought she brought the characters to life and gave them each a personality rather well.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Rubicon's fate is in her hands...

Any additional comments?

A little long winded with a great deal of narrative spent regretting the loss of others, missing those who have passed, self blame and brooding. I wish the author had spent less time having Elena seek absolution from absolutely everyone and more time developing a streamlined story. Still it was fun when you get past the constant, "it's my fault" language. I do like that some of the supporting characters got a bit more air time. The plot seemed a bit overly contrived at times but it's a fantasy world so why not. Also, has no one in this world ever heard of anger management skills? Surely one of the adults would have thought, "well, she's got this issue that isn't going away, lets help her work with it instead of just looking at her in a worried fashion all the time." I can't believe that she would be allowed to lash out irrationally in a school full of other students and then be left to her friends to figure things out.

Storyline is perfection

I am absolutely loving this series and I’m surprised I don’t hear about it more in the book groups. Especially with all of the Fourth Wing fandom. This story has dragons, dragon riders, hypogriffs, royalty, etc…highly recommended to fantasy readers.

This one was different than the others

This one cleared up a whole lot of missing pieces. But the story sort of dragged on. In my opinion so far the first book was the best. In book 2&3 Alayna is constantly winning and bitching about everything. It drove me nuts. Yes she went through a lot but seriously it was over done. I don’t understand why her friends stayed friends with her or why some of the adults didn’t put her in her place when she was rude to them. Hopefully she changes from a snarky depressed brat who says “I can’t” all the time and then turns around and does epic stuff….to someone who is a bit nicer otherwise I doubt I’ll finish the series!
