Historia
Allie Kirkland has never been one to take wild risks. But when she's offered a costuming assistant's job on a docudrama in the hills near Moses Lake, she jumps at the chance. She's always dreamed of following in her director-father's footsteps, and the reenactment of the legendary frontier settlement of Wildwood is a first step. The family expectations will have to wait. But in 1861, the real Wildwood held dangerous realities. Town founder Harland Delevan held helpless residents, including young Irish schoolteacher Bonnie Rose, in an iron grip.

Historia
From the 1920s to 1950, Georgia Tann ran a black-market baby business at the Tennessee Children’s Home Society in Memphis. The publication of Lisa Wingate’s novel Before We Were Yours brought new awareness of Tann’s lucrative career in child trafficking. Adoptees who knew little about their pasts gained insight into the startling facts behind their family histories. Encouraged by their contact with Wingate and award-winning journalist Judy Christie, who documented the stories of 15 adoptees in this book, many determined Tann survivors set out to trace their roots.

Four years later, I received an acceptance letter from Dracadia University, one of the oldest most prestigious schools in the country. Nestled on a secluded island off the coast of Maine, it's rumored to be haunted by the souls of the mental patients exiled there centuries before, those whose bones are said to make up the island's white sandy shores. Very Pleasant listen
This book was very pleasant and a very good story. Not a waste of your time. It makes you think about what is important in your day to day living. The Narrator was very good. She has a smooth mellow voice that made the listen that much more pleasant.
I bought the book for a 4.95 special and it was definitely worth it. Not sure if I would have used a credit but it was a good story.

Enjoyable Listen
What did you love best about Texas Cooking?
It's a refreshing departure from all the violence and tension out there. A sweet story with Christian undertone. The story is plausible enough to have actually happened.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
The overview of rural life and the rewards of being part of a mostly tolerant and generous community.
What three words best describe Johanna Parker’s performance?
Young adequate narrator
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Many parts bought a smile and a laugh....nice!
Any additional comments?
If you,re looking for an easy, enjoyable listen with a sprinkle of old fashioned morality thrown in - this is it.

Fabulous
I find that most stories lose my attention somewhere and I feel they could have been shorter being rather drawn out. This was a creative, well written and touching story beautifully narrated. I am now going to find something else of her writings. The only regret I think will be when I have gone through all her books
