About this listen
At the trial of Christ, Theophilus, brilliant young assessore raised in the Roman aristocracy, stands behind Pontius Pilate and whispers, "Offer to release Barabbas." The strategy backfires, and Theophilus never forgets the sight of an innocent man unjustly suffering the worst of all possible deaths - Roman crucifixion.
Three decades later, Theophilus has proven himself in the legal ranks of the Roman Empire. He has survived the insane rule of Caligula and has weathered the cruel tyrant’s quest to control the woman he loves. He has endured the mindless violence of the gladiator games and the backstabbing intrigue of the treason trials.
Now he must face another evil Caesar, defending the man Paul in Nero’s deranged court. Can Theophilus mount a defense that will keep another innocent man from execution?
The advocate’s first trial altered the course of history. His last will change the fate of an empire.

Outstanding Author
This book presents a detailed look into the depravity of Rome and some of its leaders and the persecution of Christians. There is an outstanding and consistent theme of redemption, hope, and love throughout. The narrator was excellent also. Be prepared to almost feel what the crucifixion of Jesus felt like. This book is "real life" written. By that I mean you can relate to the characters and their real life experiences. I would read any book by this author.

The Advocate
Would you listen to The Advocate again? Why?
Yes, I would listen to this book again. This was a book that I would not have normally purchased, but I was intrigued and to my surprise it was great. This is a "can't put it down" book. Loved it and will read it again.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Theophilus the main character was my favorite. He was a man of great knowledge, character and pursued the truth. He faced many trials and triumphed it all.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The last chapter.
Any additional comments?
If I could give this book more stars, I would and will recommend it highly to all of my fellow readers.

Historical fiction at its best.
I don't usually like historical fiction but this book was fascinating. The famous figures of history seen as children being educated by another famous scholar was delightful. You could see future personalities developing. There was conflict and action in the first chapter. This book kept the story moving, the intrigue going strong and never bogged down with historical facts. The character growth was believable and not overdone. A truly enjoyable book even without the historical framework.

Eccellente
Having lived in Italy 11 years, several years with the original Via Appia as our back yard marker, it was easy to become completely immersed in this amazing book. Bravo, bravo, bravissimo.

Well done.
As a fan of historical fiction and also being a Christian, I loved this book. It brought to life not only that time. But also characters both known and unknown of at the time. A real joy to listen to.

What if...
This book was not what I had expected, after having just finished two of Randy Singer's other books and continuing on with my listening library. With this masterpiece, we are taken waaaaaay back into Biblical times from a new perspective, with context not provided in the Holy Bible. We overlook that there were so many people who witnessed events then! I never even conceived of the possibilities presented in this novel. There is no questioning the Word, at all, but this brings greater depth and awareness from new (albeit fictional) sources.

I loved this book it has inspired me to continue my research into the early church history. The production with excellent the narration was spot on and I'd recommend this book to everyone Christian and non-christian alike.

Good story performed by extremely well!
Narration took a good book and made it fantastic! This story is powerful, especially the first chapter and the last couple. The narrator kept my interest when the story slowed down a little. Well done.
