Publisher's summary

The need for change as we get older - an emotional pressure for one phase of our lives to transition into another - is a human phenomenon, neither male nor female. There simply comes a time in our lives - not fundamentally different from the way puberty separates childhood from adulthood - when it's time for one part of ourselves to die and for something new to be born.

The purpose of this book by best-selling author and lecturer Marianne Williamson is to psychologically and spiritually reframe this transition so that it leads to a wonderful sense of joy and awakening. In our ability to rethink our lives lies our greatest power to change them. What we have called "middle age" need not be seen as a turning point toward death. It can be viewed as a magical turning point toward life as we've never known it, if we allow ourselves the power of an independent imagination - thought forms that don't flow in a perfunctory manner from ancient assumptions merely handed down to us, but rather flower into new archetypal images of a humanity just getting started at 45 or 50.

What we've learned by that time, from both our failures as well as our successes, tends to have humbled us into purity. When we were young, we had energy but we were clueless about what to do with it. Today, we have less energy, perhaps, but we have far more understanding of what each breath of life is for. And now at last, we have a destiny to fulfill - not the destiny of a life that's simply over, but rather the destiny of a life that is finally truly lived.

Midlife is not a crisis; it's a time of rebirth. It's not a time to accept your death; it's a time to accept your life - and to finally, truly live it, as you and you alone know deep in your heart it was meant to be lived.

Middle Aged Christians Should Read

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I enjoyed listening to this book and have purchased a hard copy. It is for those in there 40's or early 50's. I am 65 and most of what she referred to I had already experienced. Helps those with aging parents and teenage children. Makes you look at yourself directly.

Would you be willing to try another book from Marianne Williamson? Why or why not?

Yes, I enjoyed her thinking process as it relates to the aging process and guilt about not doing everything that you planned to do.

Which character ??? as performed by Marianne Williamson ??? was your favorite?

She was the only character in it.

Was The Age of Miracles worth the listening time?

I listened to this more than once. It was easy to listen to and learn from.

Marianne tells it like it is

On the back of the paperback version of this book, I saw that the classification was "self-help/Women's"...or something to that effect. I found this to be very insightful for men as well. Marianne is a very down-to-earth lady with a lot of wisdom that applies to both men and women. I enjoyed this listen very much.

I great look at middle age

I was sleeping and had a dream that I needed to read a book or books by this author. When I woke up I looked her up and was led to this book. Why? I’m not at my mid life and have years before me before I reach that point. Why, because there is great information contained here. I’m at a point in my spiritual journey where I’m trying to figure out where to go next. Many people call me ‘old’ and tell me ‘Your time is passing’. Yet, I’m starting my own business which is my third because of the lessons I’ve already learned.

A Justification of what I already believe

For anyone who thinks that once those fifties years hit you might as well curl up & grow old...I say Grow Up!
Age is just a number & getting old is just an attitude.
Marianne Williamson, with her calming voice & eloquent words explains to all why these years can be, & darn well should be, the best times we have to offer. We have wisdom, experience, heartbreak & (hopefully!) a fuller heart to offer ourselves & others.
This book is for everyone, especially for those who's mantra is 'We grow old & we die'. Those folks will find out how wrong they are!

Beautiful Book

This was a wonderful book to listen to. I love what she says, her message comes home to me and I know I will be listening to this over and over as I walk the path of midlife. It all comes together in this book and it's amazing.

Wonderful

I read MW's book, A Return to Love, many years ago. I enjoyed her writing style back then and I enjoy it today. Most of the time when I listen to a book I honestly don't wanna hear the author read it, however, MW has done so many speaking engagements that in this case it simply works. I'm not a baby boomer, I just turned 40. Yet this book has opened my eyes to the many opportunities that still await me.

Narration is fantastic. Lessons are super helpful. I enjoy hearing it from the author.

Love, Love Love this book. I will be giving this book to all my friends. Marianne explains why Midlife is not a crisis; it's a time of rebirth. It's a time to accept our life - and to truly live it, as you and you alone know deep in your heart it was meant to be lived. How simple and true.

Comprehending Wisdom Acquired

Enjoyed the journey of what midlife offers in reflection and how we can embrace moving society around us forward through engagement. There are ways we struggle accepting, but I'm aware that evolution doesn't happen without resistance; and growth exists in breaking through resistance.
