Publisher's summary
The best-selling novel about the queen who founded the Tudor dynasty. ‘A bewitching first novel…alive with historical detail’ Good Housekeeping.
Her beauty fuelled a war.
Her courage captured a king.
Her passion would launch the Tudor dynasty.
When her own first child is tragically still-born, the young Mette is pressed into service as a wet-nurse at the court of the mad king, Charles VI of France. Her young charge is the princess, Catherine de Valois, caught up in the turbulence and chaos of life at court.
Mette and the child forge a bond, one that transcends Mette’s lowly position.
But as Catherine approaches womanhood, her unique position seals her fate as a pawn between two powerful dynasties. Her brother, The Dauphin and the dark and sinister, Duke of Burgundy will both use Catherine to further the cause of France.
Catherine is powerless to stop them, but with the French defeat at the Battle of Agincourt, the tables turn and suddenly her currency has never been higher. But can Mette protect Catherine from forces at court who seek to harm her or will her loyalty to Catherine place her in even greater danger?

The New York Times bestselling author of the Six Tudor Queens series explores the private side of the legendary king Henry VIII and his dramatic and violent reign in this extraordinary historical novel. Young Henry began his rule as a magnificent and chivalrous Renaissance prince who embodied every virtue. He had all the qualities to make a triumph of his rule, yet we remember only the violence. Henry famously broke with the Pope, founding the Church of England and launching a religious revolution that divided his kingdom. He beheaded two of his wives and cast aside two others.

Story
I am not the sort of person about whom stories are told. And so begins Elise Dalriss's story. When she hears her great-granddaughter recount a minstrel's tale about a beautiful princess asleep in a tower, it pushes open a door to the past, a door Elise has long kept locked. For Elise was the companion to the real princess who slumbered-and she is the only one left who knows what actually happened so many years ago. Did you know that there are more penises than women in the Bayeux Tapestry? That the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 was started and propelled by women who were protesting a tax on women? Or that Charles Darwin believed not just that women were naturally inferior to men, but that they’d evolve to become ever more inferior? These are just a few of the startling findings you will learn from listening to Philippa Gregory’s Normal Women. In this ambitious book, she tells the story of England over 900 years, for the very first time placing women—some fifty per cent of the population—center stage.

It was easy for Elizabeth. She married the man she loved, bore him two children and made a home for him which was the envy of their friends. It was harder for Ruth. She married Elizabeth’s son and then found that, somehow, she could never quite measure up. Isolation, deceit and betrayal fill the gaps between the two individual women and between their different worlds. In this complex thriller, Philippa Gregory deploys all her insight into what women want and what women fear, as Ruth confronts the shifting borders of her own sanity.

The pages of History: Written by the blood of Agincourt
This book is a masterpiece of balance. Many books use letters to tell the story - and suffer from a dryness and stilted one sided view. This book uses letters that were never sent or read, to reveal the heart of the young protagonist. The primary voice of the story is a loyal confidant and servant of Queen Catherine who never read the letters but provides the daily story and insight into the young Catherine's heart.
It is beautifully written. The characters are memorable. The life of the French court and the sick king are portrayed in contrast to the poverty of the serfs and stoicism of the English king and court. Many of the characters change allegiances. While you may not be sure which side you would have favored when you begin the book, by the end you will be sure.

Surprisingly enjoyable
Would you listen to The Agincourt Bride again? Why?
Yes I probably would. I loved the narration and mostly enjoyed the story.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Agincourt Bride?
The Battle of Agincourt description.
The bond between Giomette and Catherine.
The birth-scene of Elise's daughter.
The wedding planning and wedding between Catherine and Henry.
Which scene was your favorite?
The scene in the glen when they have Owen play the harp and then King Henry plays for Catherine.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. I really wish that was possible sometimes!
Any additional comments?
I felt like the last chapter was very rushed but other than that I really loved the book.

This was a very good historical novel
I liked the characters and how they were developed. Some of the writing was a little too modern for the times but it did not interfere

Oh...I hope this is just the beginning of a series
The Agincourt Bride was fascinating and I was totally absorbed. There was a perfect mix of historical information and fiction to give the book life. The narrator was enchanting and I will look for more titles narrated by her. I thought the book was well researched and well written. I hope it ended the way it did because a second book is in the works.

Agincourt Bride was well written and I loved the reader.
What other book might you compare The Agincourt Bride to and why?
Red Queen/White Queen Very much like the Philipa Gregory Books. Can't wait to see what comes next!
