Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical martial-arts action.

Three hundred years after the events of the Mistborn trilogy, Scadrial is now on the verge of modernity, with railroads to supplement the canals, electric lighting in the streets and the homes of the wealthy, and the first steel-framed skyscrapers racing for the clouds. Kelsier, Vin, Elend, Sazed, Spook, and the rest are now part of history - or religion.

Yet even as science and technology are reaching new heights, the old magics of Allomancy and Feruchemy continue to play a role in this reborn world. Out in the frontier lands known as the Roughs, they are crucial tools for the brave men and women attempting to establish order and justice. One such is Waxillium Ladrian, a rare Twinborn, who can Push on metals with his Allomancy and use Feruchemy to become lighter or heavier at will.

After 20 years in the Roughs, Wax has been forced by family tragedy to return to the metropolis of Elendel. Now he must reluctantly put away his guns and assume the duties and dignity incumbent upon the head of a noble house. Or so he thinks, until he learns the hard way that the mansions and elegant tree-lined streets of the city can be even more dangerous than the dusty plains of the Roughs.

Wonderfully adventurous! Eager to start the next book. Just wish I had more time and money to get ALL of the author's books.

Good novel and performance

This novel exceeded expectations, though i have been a fan of Sanderson's work before, this one, considering it was more a side story, was really good and built upon a mythos laid down by the original trilogy.

Mr. Kramer also did a good job in the narration, as he did with Way of Kings.

Perfect entry point

While I am a big fan of some of Brandon Sanderson's other work, in particular the Stormlight Archive and the fantastic way he ended the Wheel of Time, there was something in the premise of the Mistborn trilogy that had prevented me from picking it up.

The Alloy of Law, set 300 years after the original trilogy as it is, and considerably shorter in length, turned out to be a perfect entry point into the series!

A gunslinger detective story in a fantasy world on the brink of industrialisation, The Alloy of Law is brought to life by the amazing-as-ever narration of Michael Kramer, and it does not disappoint. Fast paced and intriguing, I went through the whole thing in just a few sittings.

This book is standalone enough for there to be no need to have read the original trilogy before

Not as good as Mistborn trilogy

Different characters, different plot. Years into the future. Not as good as the mistborn trilogy. Much shorter too. Overall not bad, but not great.

So Danged Good!

Sanderson just doesn't seem to know how to write a book that isn't a top notch story!

Best Mistborn book - Hands down!!

Where does The Alloy of Law rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

The performer may take some getting used to, but if you have listened to the other Mistborn books, you will feel like you are just jumping right back into everything.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Wax is an awesome action character. He is like a James Bond of fantasy. Wayne is a fun-loving character that is extremely funny.

Which character – as performed by Michael Kramer – was your favorite?

I'm not sure about who the best character performance was. That is a tough call.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I have to say that Sanderson's ideas of religion and the mythology he creates is very interesting. He has a great ability to add in that mythology into the social acts, the vocabulary, and the motivations of all his characters.

Any additional comments?

The story is a great mystery novel mixed in with action. There are cool weapons and even more interesting powers that the characters possess. This was the best of all the Mistborn books. I thought adding guns to this magic system would make the magic system less interesting or not as effective, but Sanderson proves that idea wrong in the first five minutes of the novel.
