About this listen
The History of Yud-Tes Kislev. Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of Chabad- Lubavitch Chasidism, was arrested, persecuted, and imprisoned in the year 1798 for his selfless efforts to strengthen the Jewish people and to disseminate Chasidic teachings. Rabbi Schneur Zalman's arrest imperiled not only his own life, but also the future of Chasidism. On the 19th of Kislev that year, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi was freed from his severe imprisonment in Petersburg, Russia, cleared of charges and with his teachings vindicated. This book explores this noteworthy turning point in the Chasidic movement, and its importance as a milestone in Jewish History.

Story
The Lubavitcher Rabbi's Memoirs are a veritable treasure chest of Chasidic learning and lore, of anecdotes, historical annotations and commemorations, and represent the very best of informal writing from the profile pen of the sixth leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, Rabbi Yosef Y. Schneersohn, of blessed memory. Known and unknown figures from the past, scholars and cobblers, princes and dreamers, and giants of the spirit rise before our eyes to convey the message of inspiration, wholehearted devotion and all-out dedication that characterized Chasidic Jewish life in the small and large centers of Eastern Europe.

Story
This book traces the history of the arrest and subsequent release from prison for "counter-revolutionary activity" of the sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn in 5687 (1927). The Rebbe staunchly endured deprivation and torture, physical and mental, in an event meant to destroy the Jewish underground, and emerged from his ordeal miraculously alive and undaunted, his defiant stance entirely intact.

Story
From his early childhood onward, R. Yosef Yitzchak of Lubavitch heard a prodigious number of narratives chronicling early Chasidic and family history from his grandmother Rebbetzin Rivkah Schneersohn (1834 - 1914), wife of R. Shmuel Schneersohn, fourth Lubavitcher Rebbe (1834 - 1882). He recorded many of these in his diary and eventually shared them with the Chasidic community.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
Just before Christmas in 1843, a debt-ridden and dispirited Charles Dickens wrote a small book he hoped would keep his creditors at bay. His publisher turned it down, so Dickens used what little money he had to put out A Christmas Carol himself. He worried it might be the end of his career as a novelist. The book immediately caused a sensation. And it breathed new life into a holiday that had fallen into disfavor, undermined by lingering Puritanism and the cold modernity of the Industrial Revolution.

For those in the know.
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The problem is with the actual story. I did not have a problem with the delivery or the production.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
I was expecting and hoping for more information about the theological differences between the two schools of Jewish thought, not just the time line of what happened.
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.
