Publisher's summary

Sun Tzu's iconic treatise, The Art of War, has been studied by military historians and strategists for centuries. The concepts he recommends remain as effective and his advice as perceptive today as it has ever been. However, The Art of War is certainly not only of use to individuals in the military. The principles he lays out are remarkably applicable to a wide variety of professions and situations, from business to politics to everyday interpersonal relationships.

This edition includes the full, unabridged version of The Art of War. In addition, it includes clear yet extensive study tools and discussion questions to help listeners more easily understand this classic work.

A good study help to a timeless work

Hearing the wisdom of Sun Tzu alongside the additional questions to help understand the material is a good combination for anyone wanting to learn and apply the teachings of The Art of War. With applications to life as well as warfare I would recommend this audiobook both the Art of War as well as its study overview.

Good principles for everyday life

This was interesting. I have never read this book and really wanted to. I appreciated the actual story and the commentary was useful. At first I felt like I was in school again, shook that off, and then actually appreciated the questions being asked. It really made me think about how this pertains to my life as I am not a soldier. Really a good listen for those wanting to learn how to take Sun Tzu’s military tactics and apply them to everyday life. He really offers much more than just basic attack plans.
Narrator did a great job. His tone was perfect for this type of reading and he definitely made this type of book palatable.

Often quoted, seldom read. McAllister nails it.

I want to hug the AOG folks for doing audio books of the classics. The narrator again does a very good job of bringing to life way is a rather dry read but is one of the seminal texts of warfare. So many want to quote this book without actually reading it but this edition makes it very easy to finish.

Interesting but not for me

I feel like, for me at least, that a book like this would be much better if adapted a bit. There is a lot of amazing information in the book, and its the main reason its stood the test of time. However there is so much in there that doesn't translate well or could be given better examples. One particular example that springs to mind is when Sun Tzu starts listing army conscripts and costs of the conscripts. His point that prolonged wars or maintaining a massive army when your not at war can drive you broke still stands, but perhaps there is a better way to phrase it is all. All the same its an interesting book I think almost everyone should read at one point in their life.

Well Done

Everyone knows what this book is, so I won't waste much time discussing its merits. Let's just say it is very much worth reading. Despite the title, this work is not only applicable to military engagement, but to conflict of any kind. Who doesn't experience conflict? Who could not benefit from some classic advice on conflict strategy? This is it, in its timeless and quintessential form.

There are many versions of this title in production, but this version is well done and a pleasure to listen to. I will listen to it again.

A Classic, but not an edition I care for

I received a review copy of this audiobook.

While the book itself is undeniably a classic, I did not care for this edition. The questions for discussion between sections are largely themed around the idea of applying the principles of warfare to everyday life, and I’ve never been terribly fond of that interpretation.

The narration was fine, but nothing remarkable.

War is coming... and I intend to be victorious!

Tensions are rising between my neighbor and I. Earlier this week I caught his horse stealing apples from my tree again. Then yesterday morning I saw his cat chasing mine. These are just a few recent examples from a long list of transgressions that are unacceptable! Earlier today I attempted diplomacy but he just laughed in my face and said my complaints are "petty" and told me to "stop wasting his time." Right now he's out on his tractor. I think he might be erecting some sort of a barrier. War is coming, my friends... and I intend to be victorious!

According to Sun Tzu I shouldn't attack until my victory is assured, so I've begun the planning process. My neighbor's position is well fortified so I will need to draw him out (this is what Sun Tzu recommends; siege should only be used as a last resort). The chapter on employing fire gave me the perfect idea. I'm going to begin my offensive by lighting his barn on fire to draw him out...

Sorry about that. You're not here to read about my troubles. You want to know if Sun Tzu's ancient treatise on military strategy, The Art of War, is worth your time. Surprisingly, the strategies laid out in The Art of War are applicable in many aspects of life (especially if you have deviant neighbors). I found this edition particularly helpful since it provides a couple thoughtful discussion questions at the end of each chapter, some of which help you think about the concepts in a non military context. The narration was clear and appropriate for a book of this nature. Honestly, though, this book is short and concise. If you want to get the most from it you're going to need to listen to it more than once.

I received this audiobook for free in return for providing my honest and unbiased review.

This is not only for college students.

I received this audiobook voluntarily to review.

This is one of the most world spread book written about war. It is iconic and it not only applies to war but also business, life, and much more. Not only does this give you The Art of War itself but also questions that make you think. I do know that this audiobook is a study guide that would apply to a course at a university or in high school however this guide is great for just the person who wants to think and analyze about this book.

This study guide made me think and also it made me want to apply some of 'The Art of War' to my everyday life. C.J. McAllister was a good narrator. He had a nice and clear speaking voice and did not go to fast to the point where I could not keep up. I would definitely listen to another audiobook from him.
