About this listen

A corpse cloaked in secrets rests in an ancient tomb deep beneath Notre-Dame Cathedral, but its identity remains elusive. One priest is determined to find out who the dead man is and what he’s hiding....

Father Michael Dominic is called to France for an unusual assignment. A 14th-century bishop was found in a crypt buried under the burnt remnants of Notre-Dame—but he’s wearing the ring of a cardinal, and two parchment scrolls had been hidden in his garment sleeve. Who was this 700-year-old custodian of carefully guarded secrets?

Once Father Dominic decodes the rolled scrolls, long-hidden confessions are exposed that throw France into political turmoil while creating havoc within Dominic’s own team of friends. Relationships are tested and shocking new revelations emerge in The Avignon Affair.

If you love Dan Brown, James Patterson, and Lee Child, you need this incredible thriller! Find out why McAvoy’s listeners say, “I couldn’t turn pages fast enough!”

An eye-opening turn of events

While fiction, the premise is just realistic enough for one to wonder if this could ever happen. The narration is once again well done.

Templars, baby!

(Those of you who watch The Curse of Oak Island will recognize Gary's reaction any time they make a Templar connection.)

As with all books in this series, this begins with Medieval history involving the artifact in question. Here it’s the Templar gold.

When Notre Dame burnt down, restorers found ancient scrolls. Of course Father Dominic et al head to France.

As always, the French are rioting. As I always say, they aren’t happy unless they’re chanting in the streets. And of all things, the Duke of Avignon thinks he’s France’s real king and actually takes charge!

This one's a bit far fetched, but it's still exciting.

Fantastic historical thriller

A captivating literary journey that seamlessly blends history, mystery, and intrigue through the eyes of fully fleshed-out characters. McAvoy's
skillful storytelling transports readers to a place where past and present converge in a thrilling narrative, making readers feel like the story was ripped from the headlines.

One of the novel's strengths lies in its meticulous attention to historical detail. McAvoy weaves a rich tapestry of the medieval period,
bringing to life the vibrant characters and tumultuous events surrounding the Avignon Papacy. His vivid descriptions and extensive research create an immersive experience.

The characters are well-developed and engaging, particularly Father Michael and Hana. Each has their own complexities and motivations as they grapple with emotions
and devotion to duty.

With its historical authenticity, compelling characters, and gripping plot, The Avignon Affair will keep readers eagerly turning pages to unravel the mysteries of the past and the fate of France’s future.

Not to be left out is the amazing narration. It's no easy feat to embody multiple characters of different nationalities and genders, but the narrator nailed each one.

This particular book was more action packed and I absolutely loved it.

I am hooked ! I can't wait to listen to Gary McAvoy's books. The narrator is great, he could work on his female voices a bit lol.

Another winner in Series

Gary McAvoy has written another terrific thriller. It held me captive and I had a very hard time turning the recording off! Well done, I can’t wait for the next installment to see where he takes Fr. Michael, Hannah and the rest of the entourage .
