Winning heroine - scary story

This is a short, but winning little story with a plucky young heroine struggling to understand why her classmates and friends are all disappearing. At one level, the disappearances work on chill-inducing level, like a middle grade Stephen King story; at another, they are an echo of the loneliness she feels in her difficult home environment. The story may be a little scary for younger readers, even though it resolves heroically. Recommended for ages 11 and up. Narration is crisp and efficient. A really good car ride listen.
