The original 1924 Gertrude Chandler Warner children's classic.
Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny are four recently orphaned siblings. Not wishing to live with their hard-hearted grandfather, whom they have never met because of his disapproval of their parents' marriage, the children strike out on their own. On a cold night, the children stop at a bakery to ask for food. They are invited to stay the night, but while there, the children overhear the baker and his wife discussing a plan to keep the older children as labor while sending young Benny to an orphanage. The children escape and flee to the woods and create a home for themselves in an abandoned box-car in the forest.
Narrator Bio: Cathleen Fuller has been a Twin Cities actor and VO talent for over 30 years. Her appearances include the Guthrie Theater, Jungle Theatre, and History Theatre. Audiobooks include Murderers, Gold Citation Winner at the 2019 HearNow Festival.

All six Bastable children - Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel and Horace Octavius - are ambitious adventurers, digging detectives and intrepid treasure seekers by nature. Unfortunately, the Bastable family is currently facing an uncertain financial future. When father takes ill, and his business partners abandon him, the six children team up in an effort to restore their family’s wealth. Although they devise some ingenious escapades, their efforts usually end up unprofitable but fun - and sometimes their digging gets downright dangerous.

The original story
I prefer this version, the original, to the other updated one as the new one cut out a lot of great discussion information. Not sure why the original was changed so much. But this version is fantastic!
