Publisher's summary

A string of murders, an ancient curse and a castle full of secrets.

England, 1926. When esteemed detective Lord Edgington and his novice grandson Christopher plan a trip to the beautiful Forest of Dean, they hope for nothing more than a relaxing weekend with old friends. What they discover among the dark halls and secret passageways of Clearwell Castle is a centuries-old injustice and a rivalry that has ripped the area apart.

After two apparently unconnected villagers are murdered, Lord Edgington must pick the killer from a parade of cheery locals, cagey aristocrats and their sworn rivals. The only certainty is that every last suspect has something to hide. With talk of a ghost walking the castle and a curse that goes back generations, it soon becomes clear that this is no ordinary murder investigation.

Lord Edgington's most thrilling and unusual mystery yet is packed with gothic intrigue and a labyrinthine plot that will keep you guessing until the final chapter. The Crimes of Clearwell Castle is an Agatha-Christie-style whodunit with a cast of unique characters and a loyal golden retriever along for the ride. Will the beloved detectives solve the case before there's anyone left in the village to bump off? Or will you spot the killer before they do?

The audiobooks in this series are narrated by George Blagden from the TV shows, Vikings, Versailles, and the Oscar winning-film of Les Miserables.

Cozy mysteries

The narrator did an excellent job but after listening to 4 books in this series, the stories are getting repetitive especially with the extremely childish behaviour of the protagonist Christopher.

Good story without sleaze

The performance was good too often English accents are over done to the point of being irritating. Good story compared to what is coming out today, but not to be compared to classics.

Marvelous, with intriguing mysteries

Relatable characters, lots of plot twists, history and a dog! Completely charming, can’t wait for the next set in Wales.

A lovely historical mystery with humor and kindness

I love the relationship between Christopher and his grandfather, the humor Christopher brings to the story, and the kindness demonstrated by the main characters. The narrator was perfect. His voices for Christopher and his grandfather were quite distinctive and age appropriate for each. His voices for the other characters were also easy to distinguish, the accents were well done, and the women sounded like women. The mystery kept my interest, too. This is my first book by Benedict Brown, and I can’t wait to start reading the rest of the series starting with the first book.

Mystery Maven

Another wonderful installment. It sets the stage for the next phase of the duos adventures. What will Chrissy persue, will his beloved grandfather have a romantic entanglement, so many roads to select. Anxiously await their next adventure and the change in Chrissy as he becomes his grandfathers twin.

A fun and happy jaunt

I just love these stories and obviously want another immediately. The narrator is Chrissy and Lord Edginton. I do love the interaction with the dog.

Enjoyed the story. The lot was interesting and I loved the author’s English accent. The characters were nicely developed.

Great murder mystery for free time

It had a wonderful twist and the reader acted out all of the characters voices.

So unexpected

Very clever and funny. Not a romance-well, sort of a romance. A murder mystery with lots of potential suspects

I can’t believe I hadn’t found these before— so very glad I have now!

I love a good mystery— and this one was wonderful. The setting was perfect for an immersive experience and the plot was surprising and thoroughly enjoyable. All that said, what will bring me back to this author (probably as soon as I hit ‘submit’ on this review) are the characters. They are marvelously developed— and so perfectly narrated. I can’t wait to join them on their next case…
