Resumen del Editor

The sun rides high over the British Empire and the light still sparkles brightly in Amelia Peabody's eye as she returns for her second adventure in archaeology and romantic mystery as recounted in her lively journal, The Curse of the Pharaohs.

It was Sir Henry's intention to ensure that no tomb had been overlooked in the previous expedition. Scarcely had the men been at work for three days when their spades uncovered the first of a series of steps cut into the rock.

The Times gave the story a full column, on page three. The next dispatch to come to Luxor, however, rated front-page headlines. Sir Henry Baskerville was dead. He was found next morning stiff and stark in his bed. On his face was a look of ghastly horror. On his high brow, inscribed in what appeared to be dried blood, was a crudely drawn uraeus serpent, the symbol of the divine pharaoh.

Instead of digging up the treasures of a lost age, it appeared that Amelia and her friend Radcliffe were excavating a deadly curse.

Outstanding performance by Rosenblat

As usual Barbara Rosenblat proves to be the voice of the Amelia Peabody novels. I should say voices. She is superb at adopting over a dozen personas with different accents and personalities. I was shocked to learn she wasn’t British, so good is her Accent. She is hands down THE best narrator/performer I’ve ever listened to.

I listened to all the Amelia’s Peabody novels decades ago and was saddened when Elizabeth Peters died, knowing those stories and characters had come to an end. I decided to relisten to all of them last year and so far I’m enjoying them just as much.

I made a mistake and downloaded the first few novels not realizing that Rosenblat was not the narrator. I could not listen to the first book beyond a few minutes. I will listen only to Rosenblat for reliving my Amelia Peabody adventures.

The stories are fun and entertaining, always with a bit of matchmaking and murder mystery. And new characters that make appearances across future stories. Amelia Peabody is a smart witty feminist archeologist and I love her!!!

Barbara Rosenblat + Elizabeth Peters = gold

I've listened to this many times since discovering the Amelia Peabody series 20 years ago.
Barbara Rosenblat brings Peabody and Emerson to life. I love this series.

Reader

Didn’t like the reader. Had this been the first book I heard in this series I wouldn’t have listened to any others.

The Curse Of The Pharaohs

Well written, and funny in an uptight Victorian manner. I loved the heroine, so full of herself!

Great story and narrator

This narrator brings the story to life and will have you chuckling the whole way through at her highly proper attitude to ridiculous events. I love Elizabeth Peters' series.

Blown Away!

I cannot even begin to say what a great job Barbara Rosenblat does as a narrator. She is to the Amelia Peabody series what Jonathan Cecil is to the Wodehouse books. Ms. Rosenblat brings the story - and its wonderful humor - to life and elevates an already great book to even further heights.

Addictive, best narrator of a well written series

I love this series. Elizabeth Peters has written a very tongue in cheek, well written mystery series narrated by the excellent reader Barbara Rosenblat.

I want to get lost in their world

I love the world of the Emersons in the tales of their earlier archaeological adventures. By turns hilarious and intersting, with bits of history that actually teach you. Emerson, the Father of Curses, and his wife Amelia are people I would really like to meet. Barbara Rosenblatt is an excellent reader and has become The Voice of Amerlia as far as I am concerned.
