Publisher's summary
#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • While in Paris, Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is awakened by a phone call in the dead of the night. The elderly curator of the Louvre has been murdered inside the museum, his body covered in baffling symbols.
“Blockbuster perfection.... A gleefully erudite suspense novel.” —The New York Times
“A pulse-quickening, brain-teasing adventure.” —People
As Langdon and gifted French cryptologist Sophie Neveu sort through the bizarre riddles, they are stunned to discover a trail of clues hidden in the works of Leonardo da Vinci—clues visible for all to see and yet ingeniously disguised by the painter.
Even more startling, the late curator was involved in the Priory of Sion—a secret society whose members included Sir Isaac Newton, Victor Hugo, and Da Vinci—and he guarded a breathtaking historical secret. Unless Langdon and Neveu can decipher the labyrinthine puzzle—while avoiding the faceless adversary who shadows their every move—the explosive, ancient truth will be lost forever.

The Spandau Diary -- what was in it? Why did the secret intelligence agencies of every major power want it? Why was a brave and beautiful woman kidnapped to get it? Why did a chain of deception and violent death lash out across the globe, from survivors of the Nazi past to warriors in this new conflict about to explode? Why did the world's entire history of World War II have to be rewritten as the future hung over a nightmare abyss?

Unbeknownst to him, his assigned class, 4-217, was the designated "dumping ground" for all fourth-grade problem cases, and his students would prove to be more challenging than he could ever anticipate. Intent on being a caring, dedicated teacher but confronted with unruly children, absent parents, and a failing administration, Dan was pushed to the limit time and again: he found himself screaming with rage, punching his fist through a blackboard out of sheer frustration, often just wanting to give up and walk away.

This book will make you think
A good book should pique your curiosity and make you think, and this book does just that. Regardless of your beliefs, it is still an interesting work of *fiction*, based on some nuggets of truth. While I found the frequent use of flashbacks in the first half a bit repetitive, this information certainly rounds-out the story. This is not a book to be gulped in one sitting, but to be savored with time to think in-between (and to perhaps look at some of the references listed).

What a ride!
Yup - It is every bit as good as the hype.
I love the book much better than the movie. I have recently got ALL the books in this series, and am looking forward to going through this one again.
Cloak and dagger? Yup! This book has it.
Cliff Hanger Chapters? Yup! This book has it.
Enjoyable fiction? Yup! This book has it.
The author does a great job of moving the story forward, clear description, believable characters and suspension of disbelief is not taxing.
LOVED the narration on this one! Very Engaging.

Am reviewing at Chapter 90.
Believe it or not, I am reviewing this at chapter 90. I have enjoyed the book so far immensely. I think Stacey (Bestseller--A travesty) is very far off the mark. Granted it is not the great American novel, but for listening while relaxing or cleaning out a closet! it has certainly fulfilled my needs.
Paul Michael is a wonderful reader and I thought his accents were quite good. At times, I could hear his voice coming through, but for the most part his characters took on their own voices.
All in all, it is an exciting "read" and I just bought Angels and Demons, will download it and compare the two.

Great and thought provoking
I loved this book, even as a Christian who at the core disagreed with the total premise and would argue many of the historical facts. But even with that, The premise was very entertaining, controversial, and kept me glued to the story. The narrator was great, also, doing the voices very good.

WAY better than his Demons & Angels book
I thought I would listen to Demons & Angels before the Da Vinci Code thinking that it would be just as good. Boy, was I wrong! The Da Vinci Code was SO much better than I had hoped. It is a nice story that you can get lost in and will keep you hooked till the very end. I enjoyed the fact that I knew the character Robert Langdon from Demons & Angels, even if I didn't really enjoy THAT particular book. I understand some were not impressed with his writing, but I say please listen to his earlier books and you will see that The Da Vinci Code is much better and entertaining to boot.

Don't critcize until you read...
Some folks love to talk. Some folks love to talk about things they know nothing about. THIS BOOK is one of the most talked about and misunderstood tomes this side of SATANIC VERSES. Christians have slandered it, know-it-alls cite it, amateur historians scoff it... and I'll bet that half of these folks haven't even cracked open the cover. It was enjoyable - some of the situations were a bit far-fetched and many of the 'factual' citations are tainted for the thrill of drama. But it was an enjoyable romp - supple characterizations bolstered by an ample narrative. In short, it was fun.
