Story
Some of the parchment pages were the color of cream, thick and substantial, made to last many, many lifetimes. Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Hated it, then Loved it, then...
I bought this book some time ago, started to listen to it and absolutely hated it! Maybe it was just me, maybe my head wasn't in the right place. When I recently ran out of other listening material and decided to just hunker down and bear it, so I started over from the beginning again. I originally rated it 1 star, but as you can see, have revised my rating to 4 stars :)
In the beginning, I didn't like the narrator, his voice sounded like he had a very bad cold, which maybe he did (or maybe he just grew on me) because I found myself really liking him after a while. I'm not sure if his voice changed or if I just grew accustomed to him.
This book can be very confusing at times, which may only be true in Audio form. It changes between time, place, and character sets quite often and there is little indication (at least in the audio format) when that is happening, so I went through some confusion at the start of each new segment.
The author uses a lot of complex foreign words to name things, people, places, events, etc. which change depending on the person's point of view from which he is writing. Yes, it may be very authentic, but many times I found myself not even trying to figure out what was being said or referred to, and just waiting to pick up the clues based on context. For example, one character may have 5+ parts to his/her name (think middle eastern) but also have 2 or 3 additional names due to their classification in the society. Add on top of that the point of view of the speaker and you will understand why, many times, it took me a while to even understand who was speaking or to whom they were speaking.
Okay, that's the bad stuff... This truly is a sweeping and epic novel that covers a lot of territory, nations, characters, and time. The story lines are complex, but very fulfilling and creative. The inter-personal relationships are also complex and satisfying. The action is fairly constant and well done.
Overall, I found myself very drawn into the story, captivated by the action, empathetic with the characters, and sad when the book ended. If you don't let any of the negatives get to you early on, you will be rewarded with yet another great novel in this series!
Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Twister you gotta love
I am so glad grrm is NOT writing this series. I like these books immensely but not if released every 5 or 6 years.. Great pace ,,characters that you can't quite figure out ,no wasted pages,,,a plot that is neither predictable or boring,,a great read ( I do both ),,and now I can't wait for the next book,,,but then he isn't the puddin and pie boy is he. Another good story in the Demon Cycle.
I had been highly anticipating the The Daylight War, and mostly was not disappointed. The book gets off to a wonderful start, this time giving you the background story of Inevera, the wife of Jardir. As with the first two books, the story of Inevera draws you in with the tough but enticing life of a girl destined for greatness. Unfortunately, once Inevera's story comes to an end, and the story of The Daylight War begins, the book found itself in the unusual place of not much happening. The middle third of the book drags a little bit as the story of the Hollow doesn't move with the excitement of Inevera's story. It's not a bad thing really, as much of it is meant to give a build up to the ending and future books. The book does pick up at the end finishing with a surprise cliff hanger.
Narrator Pete Bradbury does a good if not great reading. Also, I was put off a little bit by some of the overly descriptive sex scenes. I know this is adult fantasy, but some scenes bordered on pornography. A little more imagination, and a little less descriptiveness would have fared better. Overall, The Daylight War is another good book in the series, and I have enjoyed them all very much so far.

Exactly what I wanted for a 3rd installment
If you could sum up The Daylight War in three words, what would they be?
Fantastic Read!
What about Pete Bradbury’s performance did you like?
Well picked vocal talent. Though I read the first two books, and listened to the 3rd book, I found it not to difficult to listen to after the first 1-3 chapters of getting use to it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
If you haven't connected to the characters already, you will after this books. There is some great battles, court politics, and various shannanigans.
Any additional comments?
I loved that this stayed true to this series... This book was a long time in the making, and I was NOT disappointed.

Worth the wait!!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Daylight War to be better than the print version?
Honestly, I never read the print version.
What did you like best about this story?
It took off where it left off. This audible book was highly anticipated. The ending left me wanting more. I hope there is a follow-up. This author does an excellent job making sure the reader understands what makes each character tick without slowly the pace of the story.
Have you listened to any of Pete Bradbury’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Always a treat. A true compliment to the experience.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
My eyes remained wide open during the listening. I never knew what would happen next. I cringed (physically) at several points in the story. A few characters never failed to deliver the unexpected chuckle.
Any additional comments?
The entire series is well written and delivered. I truly hope there is a follow-up book. The unique and complex method of magic is a testimonial to this author's creativity. It is why I will forever love Fantasy novels. Really excellent!
