A different fantasy story... very enjoyable.

The author took many of the classic fantasy tale tropes & challenged them, bringing them back down to earth & rooting the story around how people actually are, rather than an idealized vision.

It truly works well.

I couldn't stop listening.

My only issue is that I kept being late because I wanted to find out what was going to happen next! Great character separation in the performances.

Best of Genre

The wheel of time is one of few series of books I’ve returned to again and again. This is my first time using audiobooks, I’ve read twice through the series and each time it becomes richer and clearer.

The story is like no other series in scope, except for possibly the Sword of Truth. And this is better, slightly but definitively. It feels more mature and it isn’t centered on one single man (or woman) and his enemy. It takes you in many different directions and characters are relatable and almost familiar.

The only complaint I have is not really a fault of the book or reader, but I’ll say this...some words when I read the books, I pronounce differently. I’m not sure if mine is correct or not, but after so long reading words a certain way, it’s difficult to hear them pronounced another. But this is small and inevitable.

If you haven’t read this series and you enjoy fantasy and epic series, you can do no better. For me, this series is the standard.

an adequate start

an adequate start to a reportedly good series. the end is slapdash but its lovecraftian interlude is perhaps the best part. kind of reminds me of the end of the Hulk movie where he blows up his dad by being a dufus. entertaining, and there are hints of complex morality plays that presumably play out later. 3.5 stars if your expectations are "more tolkien".

I love this book

Can’t wait to start the next book. There was so much going on in the first book that I had to listen to it twice great read for anybody who loves fantasy novels. The only thing that I had a difficult time with was how wordy the book can be at times.
