About this listen

It's not every day you see a new face in my small hometown of Two Harts, let alone one belonging to an annoyingly handsome all-star NFL player. But for some reason, Chris Sterns has decided that the library where I work is his go-to spot to hide from his mega-fans, and unfortunately, winding me up is his new favorite sport.

Being crowned “world’s sexiest man” has done little to curb his confident charm and when he somehow ropes me into his two-person book club, I can’t help warming to his endless positivity. But when a photo of him stumbling out of a Las Vegas club with a woman in tow is leaked to the press, I can’t help but question whether his good-boy persona is just an act. And that’s far from the only answer I’m left searching for when Chris pops the question I’ve only ever heard in my favorite romance books.

Did he really just ask me to marry him? It’s not the proposal I was expecting, but with my mom’s medical bills piling up faster than I can pay them and with the scandal threatening to ruin everything Chris has worked for, could an engagement be the perfect fake out for us both? Or is this a game we’ll both lose? Full of laugh-out-loud moments, this totally uplifting and addictive friends-to-lovers romance is perfect for fans of Emily Henry, Sarah Adams, and Olivia Dade.

Characters with quirks

This is the 2nd book I’ve listened to by this author. I’ve enjoyed both very much. That is in large part to the fact that her characters are interesting & quirky, as opposed to typical & unrealistic.

Nice clean romance.

The story was cute. Overall a fairly solid read. I really liked that the author didn't feel the need to drown the story in spice.

Hang in there

Story is a bit long and the fmc is a little frustrating. But the ending is great so hang in there. Awesome supporting characters. Mild language, minimal steam (closed door). Small town, grumpy/sunshine.

Predictably fun

Fun little story. But the narration grates after a while. I had to listen in short bursts. It sounds like the narrator is whispering loudly so some of the voices, like Chris, are just really odd. Every single thing he says is in a whisper.

Hooked from start to finish

The Fake Out by Sharon M. Peterson is a delightful and heartwarming read that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Peterson masterfully weaves humor, romance, and a touch of drama into a captivating story that feels both fresh and familiar.

The characters are richly developed and immensely relatable. The protagonist’s journey is one that many will find inspiring, filled with moments of self-discovery, personal growth, and unexpected romance. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, and their witty banter adds a lighthearted charm to the narrative.

Peterson’s writing style is engaging and easy to read, making it perfect for a cozy afternoon. The plot is well-paced, with just the right balance of twists and turns to keep you guessing without ever feeling contrived. The emotional depth of the story is beautifully contrasted with moments of levity, creating a well-rounded and satisfying read.

Overall, The Fake Out is a fantastic book that offers everything you could want in a romantic comedy. It’s funny, touching, and ultimately uplifting. Sharon M. Peterson has crafted a gem of a novel that will leave readers smiling long after they’ve turned the last page. Highly recommended!
