Resumen del Editor

Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

The more you invest your time in Middle Earth, the more you are rewarded

The journey so far has been fantastic and Tolkien does a wonderful job at making you imagine people and places and build a whole world in your head.

It was very enjoyable and satisfying to listen to the book.

An excellent tale of high fantasy

What did you love best about The Fellowship of the Ring?

Tolkien is a master storyteller and creates a very realistic and believable world. His lovely descriptions bring the story to life and he does a fantastic job at creating characters with their own misgivings and flaws so that even the 'heroes' aren't perfect.

What did you like best about this story?

In this book, my favorite part is the time the Hobbits spend with Tom Bombadil.

Which character – as performed by Rob Inglis – was your favorite?

Rob Inglis does such a fantastic job with all of the characters. I do really enjoy his Gandalf if forced to pick a favorite.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

The Fellowship of the Ring (Because there's already a movie...)

Excellent

Okay I am not going to go into a review of the story. If you don't know it, just go ahead and download the book. Its a classic you should have long since read.

Now onto the narration. Excellent. At points in reading this book I felt it dragged but its Tolkien, its Middle Earth, its Elves. I dealt with it because the story over all was good. NONE of that dragging comes in when listening to the Audio book. You stay engaged, or entranced. The Narrator does and excellent job telling the story, giving life to the characters and even pulls off the singing parts as well.

Often the Narrations can ruin a good book. But it can also make a good book soar beyond expectations, and that is what this narrator did for this book.

Amazing

I have always been a fan of Tolkien's works. My father used to read me these stories at bedtime all through my childhood. I am continually re-reading them, and as I have gotten older it has become more difficult to find time to sit and read these wonderful books, so I decided to try the audible version. I listen to them when cleaning, or driving. Rob Inglis does a wonderful job! His voice is lovely to listen to, and he even sings the songs! I can certainly say that I will listen to these over and over again, and I have already recommended them to many friends! I wish he would record the Silmarillion, that would be amazing, as the only one I can find on audible is not available to purchase in the U.S.

How could you not love this?

If you've only seen the movies, the books only enhance them.
A good and excellent listen for any occasion, a road trip in our case. The book inspired many great conversations and equally as good reminiscences.

Classic

The Fellowship of the Ring kicks off the first part of an epic tale that we all know and love. I love this book and the two that follow. What more is there to say?

Enchanting

Would you consider the audio edition of The Fellowship of the Ring to be better than the print version?

Rob Inglis does an excellent reading of the text. I greatly appreciated his performance of Tolkien's songs and poems, which are far too easy to skim over when reading the text oneself. They added a whole new dimension that I missed when last I read "Fellowship".

Any additional comments?

This reading reawakened my love of Middle Earth as presented in the text dormant since childhood. I was worried that I would compare every scene and every character to the image I have from the films, which are much fresher in my memory, but I quickly forgot them entirely as I was washed over by Tolkien's prose.

The Canonical Record

This recording is the Voice of Middle Earth as far as I'm concerned: the narration, voice stylings, and the singing are all brilliant.
