Publisher's summary
The year is 1771. Claire Randall is still an outlander, out of place and out of time. But now she is linked by love to her only anchor: Jamie Fraser. They have crossed oceans and centuries to build a life together in North Carolina. But tensions, both ancient and recent, threaten members of their clan.
Knowing that his wife has the gift of prophecy, James must believe Claire, though he would prefer not to. Claire has shared a dreadful truth: there will, without a doubt, be a war. Her knowledge of the oncoming revolution is a flickering torch that may light his way through perilous years ahead - or ignite a conflagration that will leave their lives in ashes.

In this revealing compendium, acclaimed writer Diana Gabaldon shares her invaluable lessons for creating an immersive reading experience, from evoking a mood to using the power of emotions to communicate physical intimacy. You'll learn the difference between gratuitous sex and genuine encounters that move the story forward and how to handle less-than-savory acts that nevertheless serve a narrative purpose. Gabaldon also notes that sex can be conveyed instead of described.

The DFZ, the metropolis formerly known as Detroit, is the world’s most magical city with a population of nine million and zero public safety laws. That’s a lot of mages, cybernetically enhanced chrome heads, and mythical beasties who die, get into debt, and otherwise fail to pay their rent. When they can’t pay their bills, their stuff gets sold to the highest bidder. That’s when they call me. I’m a Cleaner: a freelance mage employed by the DFZ to sort through the mountains of magical junk people leave behind. It’s not a pretty job, or a safe one....

The Industrial Revolution has begun, factories are springing up across the country, and new technologies are transforming the cities. But the old ways do not die easy. Cat and Bee are part of this revolution. Young women at college, learning of the science that will shape their future and ignorant of the magics that rule their families. But all of that will change when the Cold Mages come for Cat. New dangers lurk around every corner and hidden threats menace her every move. If blood can't be trusted, who can you trust?

In 1761, on a sunny day in September, a King and Queen met for the very first time. They were married within hours. Born a German Princess, Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was beautiful, headstrong, and fiercely intelligent… not precisely the attributes the British Court had been seeking in a spouse for the young King George III. LOVE THIS SERIES!
If you could sum up The Fiery Cross in three words, what would they be?
Exciting. Twisty. Fantastic.
I could not just leave it at 3 words, as there are so many wonderful things to say. I absolutely love this series! I started by reading the first 3 books, but found that with the length of them, and my thirst for more.... the audio-book was the way to go, so I am able to listen while walking, working and driving. The story line never seems to waiver, it is always full of intrigue and suspense. The characters are easy to fall in love with, leaving me longing to follow their stories.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I have more than one favorite character -- I would have to say I always love Claire; strong in her convictions, and everything she does. Fearless and always interesting. Jenni is also one of my favorites, although not featured as much in this book as others.
Have you listened to any of Davina Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
This is the 2nd book I have listened to by Davina Porter. I enjoy her voice, her tone. She is easy to understand, and transitions between characters flawlessly. There is always distinction in when she switches between characters; deeper voice for males, etc. Pleasant to listen to hours on end.
