#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From the master of legal thrillers, a page-turning classic of “suit-and-dagger suspense” (The New York Times): At the top of his class at Harvard Law, Mitch McDeere had his choice of the best firms in America. He made a deadly mistake.

Don’t miss John Grisham’s new book, THE EXCHANGE: AFTER THE FIRM, coming soon!

For a young lawyer on the make, it was an offer Mitch McDeere couldn’t refuse: a position at a law firm where the bucks, billable hours, and benefits are over the top. It’s a dream job for an up-and-comer—if he can overlook the uneasy feeling he gets at the office. Then an FBI investigation into the firm’s connections to the Mafia plunges the straight and narrow attorney into a nightmare of terror and intrigue. With no choice but to pit his wits, ethics, and legal skills against the firm’s deadly secrets—if he hopes to stay alive…

Featured Article: Christmas with the Kranks—Book vs. Movie

John Grisham may be best known for his legal thrillers, but he's also been known to deviate from form every now and then and write something completely different. Skipping Christmas is one such book. It was adapted into a 2004 film called Christmas with the Kranks, starring Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis, which gained the story an even wider audience. If you're familiar with the film but don’t know much about its literary inspiration, read on.

The Thrill

One of John Grisham's finest I've experienced. Keeps the suspense all the way to the last letter

The end was a little bit bland

The story is good but lack a little of the excitement that Grisham has us accustomed to. Still, it is a good story.

One of Grisham's best stories

The Firm is one of the only books where the plot line of the movie adaptation was better than the book. This is a great story, and honestly one of Grisham's best, most complete and thought provoking stories. But, the screen writers fixed some consistency issues, and overall came up with a much better ending than is here in the book. That being said, the characters are amazing, and so rich and full. The idea behind the story is so brilliant, and so heartbreaking. Love the story!

Scott Brick is a narrator that really has to grow on you. He had to grow on me, anyway. The first few books I listened to that he narrated, I wasn't sure of whether or not I liked his style and cadence. I am still not 100% in his camp, but I do have to say that this is my favorite of all of his performances. By quite a bit, actually. He does a great job with this one, and actually added quite a bit to my enjoyment of this book.

Great reading by Scott Brick

This book is really good! It was a little slow getting started, but once it did, I could not stop listening.

One of my all time favorites

Any additional comments?

Read this years ago, but went ahead and downloaded it anyway. No regrets. Still a great story. Funny how some of the things seem dated now, such as lack of cell phones, and security at airports, but still a very good story.

Nostalgia

I loved this story in high school and this was a very pleasant walk down memory lane. Scott Brick has a pleasant speaking voice and adds emotion to the narration in ask the right places. His accents were okay, but I wish he'd done more to differentiate the character voices.

Classic

First book I ever read cover to cover. I wanted to revisit an old friend. The story still holds up. What I love about this book is how easy it is and quick to get through.
