Publisher's summary

In the archaeology community, Christopher “Kit” Sawyer’s family is a legacy. And while he may be a historian, not a treasure hunter, he thinks he does a pretty good job of living up to the Sawyer name. He's a book-smart research fanatic and does his best work at his tidy desk. No fedora and whip for him, if you please—a nice cup of coffee and a comfy chair will do. But decoding an ancient relic soon gives him more adventure than he bargained for.

Unwittingly, he unleashes a force he doesn't know how to control. And now he has to reunite the relic with a powerful Aztec God. The trouble with that? Kit doesn’t where to find the Tlaloc’s temple. No one does, in fact. Finding it could be a discovery for the ages. It could also lead to his untimely death. So...yay? But it’s not like he has a choice. So off to the Mexican jungle he goes.

At least he isn’t going alone.

Ethan Stone, former stepbrother and overall pain in the rump, horns in on the expedition. An experienced archaeologist, he's only coming along at their grandfather's request—which annoys Kit to no end. But he knows Ethan is just the right person to get them through the jungle safely. It’s just too bad someone is trying to beat them to the temple. And he’s willing to do anything to get there first.

Ethan thinks Kit is in over his head. Kit is secretly afraid he just may be right. In manners of archaeology...and manners of the heart….

Adventure, Banter and (ex)Step-Brothers in Love

I love a book with good snarky banter and Kit had plenty. Kit has a lot of resentment because of his epilepsy and how it has held him back from the ‘family business’ and Ethan is trying hard to not lose any more of the family he found with the Sawyers. Stuck together in the jungle because of an ancient Aztec crown they are force to confront their feelings for each other. It had a little bit of everything - action, snarky humor, magic, emotional moments and a HEA.

As always, Joel Leslie did an amazing job!

Great

I really enjoyed this book. It was a captivating adventure. I really liked Kit. Because of the accomplishments of his family members- something he's never been able to match in part due to a medical condition- he has his insecurities and confidence issues. It made him feel relatable to me. I liked the mystery of the cursed crown and the adventure it led him on. I had mixed feelings about Ethan, though he did win me over after a while.

Joel Leslie is my absolute favorite narrator and I try to listen to everything I can find from him. He puts so much heart and emotion into his work and really brings the characters to life. I've listened to a number of his narrations, but this was by far the most adventure-themed one, so I liked that aspect of it.

This is my first book by this author and I look forward to reading more.

Good Story

This was not necessarily a great romance, but a great adventure! Suspenseful definitely, takes you on almost an anxiety ride waiting to find out how is following the main characters on their journey. I love S.E. Harmson’s stories and this one was no exception.

The Narration was great as well. Did not enjoy the voice he used to be Ethan, it sounded pompous, but great otherwise.

So fun, adventure and romance!

I really loved Kit and Ethan’s story. This was fun as a book but maybe even better in audio, all the adventure in the story really is perfect for listening. I really adored the two main characters and the narrator is wonderfully engaging in bringing them to life. Kit and Ethan’s story is an epic adventure across exotic locations but it is also, at its heart, a beautifully written and lovely romance. I loved it a lot.

Clever story

This is a fun adventure tale of anthropology and paranormal mystery. Kit Sawyer is a delightful character. Sadly, Josh Lanyon seems to be a master of pairing up sweet, smart, extremely likeable men with arrogant assholes. A case in point here. Still, besides the annoying Ethan, this is strongly worth a listen. Kit has a funny, charming voice and the myths and magic here are well done.

Great story

A captivating adventure with 2 very endearing characters. The snark is good and the narration was top notch. I hope there will be more.

So very good!

This was so good! We have Christopher/Kit, who comes from a family of explorers. After his mom dies, his dad starts a relation with Ethan's mother. From the get-go, Kit has an issue with Ethan. He is attracted to him, but most of all he is jealous of him. Kit is a sick child & spent most of his time confined to bed writing children's book about an archeological adventurer. Kit is a decoder who loves to solve the riddles of the past. After he examines an ancient Aztec relic, strange things start to happen to him. For one, the crown keeps following him. He would leave it & it would just show up. And he also started having weird dreams. He decides that he is going to find the temple that he believes the clues point him to. Kit's grandfather tasks Ethan on taking him on this expedition into the deep wilderness of Mexico. There is danger all around them in addition, not only from the jungle itself, but from someone from Ethan's past. You could feel the sexual tension between our MC's rolling of the pages. I loved the secondary characters as well. This will be a book I will re-read many times.

I am so very glad this came out in audio. Joel Leslie did an amazing job bringing these characters to life.

Artifacts, Lost Cities and Falling in Love!

I absolutely adore our nerdy hero, Kit! Joel Leslie narrating gave all the personality here! Kit has become a historian while battling against his epilepsy. He was such a resilient guy! His animosity towards his perfect and charming stepbrother amps up the romance. Ethan invites himself on Kit's adventure, and we just know that there is more to it than just wanting to get under Kit's skin. Ethan is very protective and genuinely worried for Kit. Loved these two and all the artifacts and lost cities! Definitely an adventure of falling in love!

Amazing character and story development!

I loved this action adventure romance! It was equal parts Indiana Jones and enemies to lovers Rom-Com. Kit and Ethan were such fun characters and I loved seeing these two finally figure out they haven’t really hated each other since childhood. The narration was 10/10 but I wouldn’t expect anything less from Joel Leslie. He is always a must listen for me no matter what the story is. I hope we will get future books with these characters because I’m not ready to say goodbye yet!
