1951. After a whirlwind romance, usherette Connie is swept off her feet when projectionist Charlie proposes in a film reel added to the final frames of Casablanca. Her job at the Tivoli cinema in Tiverton has been a refuge from her violent and alcoholic father, Frank. But that night, Connie disappears, not only from Charlie's life, but from her own as well.
1996. 45 years later, divorcee Eddie finds the abandoned film reel in the cinema he's restoring, with an added note reading "I'm sorry". A welcome distraction from his renovation and romantic woes, Eddie sets out to solve the mystery of Connie Harris. But Eddie's dig into the past sets off a chain of events that will change his life and those he holds close, as he seeks to answer the question: what happened to Connie Harris?
