About this listen

New York Times best seller

The number-one best-selling author of The Future of the Mind traverses the frontiers of astrophysics, artificial intelligence, and technology to offer a stunning vision of man's future in space, from settling Mars to traveling to distant galaxies.

We are entering a new Golden Age of space exploration. With irrepressible enthusiasm and a deep understanding of the cutting-edge research in space travel, world-renowned physicist and futurist Dr. Michio Kaku presents a compelling vision of how humanity may develop a sustainable civilization in outer space. He reveals the developments in robotics, nanotechnology, and biotechnology that may allow us to terraform and build habitable cities on Mars and beyond. He then journeys out of our solar system and discusses how new technologies such as nanoships, laser sails, and fusion rockets may actually make interstellar travel a possibility.

We travel beyond our galaxy, and even beyond our universe, as Kaku investigates some of the hottest topics in science today, including warp drive, wormholes, hyperspace, parallel universes, and the multiverse. Ultimately, he shows us how humans may someday achieve a form of immortality and be able to leave our bodies entirely, laser porting to new havens in space.

Critic reviews

"Feodor Chin's narration is unflaggingly positive.... Chin's reading is anchored in a journalistic tone that matches the author's pop-science style - part scientific, part anecdotal, and part speculation." (AudioFile)

Exceptional Story of Real Human Capabilities

I do feel that Michio Kaku captures and relays the influence of science and physics on humanity in his stories like no other current-day author does. What makes his stories so interesting is the amount of credibility and reference he continuously provides with every new element to an idea that changes. It fascinates me to believe something which can sound like science-fiction probably to so many at a first glance.

The narrator is great, but given the chance I would request Marc Vietor for this author's books. He is my favorite narrator of this author I have yet heard.

Blew my freakin mind

This book made me reconsider everything I believe. Happily, it also helped me understand that science and religion can, in fact, go hand-in-hand. When this audiobook ended, I had to stop working, sit down and take a deep breath. Fantastic book. I recommend it for anyone who wants to elevate their way of thinking about the universe.

Wow!

Eye opening! This book makes you realize the limitless possibilities of humanity if we keep our eyes on the prize. The author explains things in everyday language and his optimism can be felt through the words. Highly recommend.

Interesting overview of deeper concepts

As always, Dr. Kaku successfully peaks my interest to begin researching other areas - thank you!

This book provides a great overview of deeper scientific concepts in a manner that most anyone can understand. If you're looking for a deeper dive into, for example, string theory, then this isn't the book for you. However, if you're interested in finding out what one the world's best physicists sees through his crystal ball or how we can best promote humanity's longevity in the cosmos, then I would encourage you to buy this book.

Inspirador

Me parece sorprendente el posible futuro de la humanidad. No por su grandeza sino por su precariedad. Todos éstos prodigios como posibilidad y no hemos sido capaces, como humanidad, de disminuir en 2 grados el calentamiento global. Sorprendente.

Another great story!

Loved the interwoven philosophy and religion with physics. Similar to other books, but refreshing updates.

A bridge between science fiction and science fact.

Quite an interesting book if you're looking for an overview of emerging technologies that might pave the way towards a future in the stars. I could have done without the bit about global warming, not because I don't believe in climate change but when I read Michio Kaku I want his opinions in the field he is an expert in, I don't particularly care for his opinions otherwise. (I don't ask my engineer father for medical advice or the like.) Overall though, it's a great book.

In Layman’s terms

I’m not a theoretical physics student, or any other type of physics student. Once again, Dr Kaku does an incredible job of using plain language to explain the impressive theories and phenomena in this book in such as a way as to make me wish I was a theoretical physics student to assist in the search for the solution to the unified field theory.
