Publisher's summary

Wolves. Dragon shifters. A fallen kingdom destined to rise again.

Evie Callahan is positive there's something strange going on in Seaton Falls, her new home. The locals are bigger, stronger, and faster than most. That includes Nick, the boy next door who's become her silver lining in this godforsaken town.

She wants to trust her instincts - about Nick, about what she suspects in Seaton Falls - but rumors of wolves and dragon shifters makes it hard to tell what's real. With a history of odd dreams and the nagging sense she's never belonged, Evie fears she's losing touch with reality. Her concern only grows when someone who's haunted these dreams is suddenly tangible...and claims to hold the key to unlocking her true identity.

Finding out her entire life has been a lie is scary enough, but what's downright terrifying is discovering who she's destined to become.

Evie's much more than your average 17-year-old girl. This is her genesis.

Amazing performance, deep world building

Came into this book with the knowledge it was a YA paranormal romance type book but I have to say I was quite impressed with the level of world building.

Narrators are superb.

Only gripe I have is that I feel like there was a lot of build up with a bit of a cliff hanger finish. I know it's a trilogy, but it felt like it just ended in the middle of an arc, instead of leading into a next one.

The Genesis starts slow and builds

The Genesis of Evangeline starts slow and builds. Starting in on this book had no clue what really to expect, but the story started off as a teen romance story and slowly builds from there. It introduces tensions, challenges and surprise to complicate relationships in the book. Deva and Danny interplayed each other beautifully becoming the characters with the angst the story deserves.

Great entertainment

This was a lovely story narrated by two wonderful voice actors. I had a hard time doing anything else while this was on and it was difficult to turn it off. I applaud all the people involved in making a wonderful story and would recommend this to my friends.

Very much a beginning

Preface: I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The Genesis of Evangeline reads very much like the first installment of a deep series. It spends a lot of time setting the tone, introducing characters, and showing the reader how the narrators think. Because of that, the first 9 hours of the book can seem a little bit slow. At the same time, if you enjoy character development and understanding who they are, where they come from and why they think the way they do, you'll enjoy it.

The story started great. It introduced Eve as a relatable character-- joining a new school that she didn't feel comfortable with in her senior year of high school. It really starts to build her as a young woman that I could really like. It started to go downhill the moment she meets the captain of the football team, because from there, 90% of the drama and inner dialogue came from the two thinking about how attracted they are to each other, and did little to show why. Which, I guess can be pretty typical for two kids in high school? It was a point of contention for me, because I expected a little more substance and chemistry from a fictional relationship.

But it immediately started to pick back up when the real story started to reveal itself. This book is about shifters, and that's what I wanted. The lore of the shifters in this series is being set up in an interesting and unique way. But right as the action really started to pick up, it was over.

As for the performances, I really appreciated that there was a male and female narrator for the different POVs. Both performers were clear and easy to understand. Their tones reflected the moments of urgency, and I could feel the emotion they were trying to convey.

Don't waste your money

The author spend more than 3/4 of the book inner monalog that is just inane. And a ending that is stupid just so they could write another book.
